Grey Prowler
Grey Prowlers are a species of galactoceti that act in a manner similar to the wolves of Old Earth, hunting prey many times the size of each individual that makes up the group. Grey Prowlers are one of the species of galactoceti that are capable of making short spike drill jumps from system-to-system provided there are enough members in the pod to combine their psychic power to drill into Metaphysical Space, and as such are a very widespread species.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Grey Prowler's body is torpedo shaped with it's head located at the front and a main exhaust orifice located at the rear, which is surrounded by flipper-like lobes that are used to focus the combusted gases expelled from the orifice.
Twelve exhaust orifices line the length of the body in four lines of three which would divide the body into quarters if viewed from the front, and are used in conjunction with flipper appendages to perform tighter maneuvers than the main exhaust orifice can accomplish on its own.
The Grey Prowler's mouth is located at the apex of the head and is lined with rows of sharp, serrated teeth. A pair of ridged armour plates are located on the sides of the head perpendicular to the direction of the mouth opening. These plates are used to bludgeon and lacerate prey as the Grey Prowlers pursue it.

Genetics and Reproduction
Little is known of the reproductive habits of the Grey Prowler, though based on the observation of pods from a distance and examination of recovered bodies, it is theorized that they reproduce sexually with the male fertilizing the females ovum internally, after which she undergoes a gestation period of several months before giving birth to a baby referred to as a calf. The calf is fed a nutrient rich substance that resembles sour cream released from sheltered mammary glands.
Growth Rate & Stages
A Grey Prowler reaches full physical maturity after 16 years of age with fully grown adult males dispersing to other pods.
Ecology and Habitats
Grey Prowlers choose to inhabit asteroid fields and other such dense formations for both safety and stealth. Reports of Grey Prowlers using ship graveyards as nesting sites are common enough that shipbreaker crews are regularly warned to watch out for the creatures when working on salvage projects in systems known to have Grey Prowlers.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Grey Prowlers are primarily carnivorous, choosing to feed on larger species of galactoceti that are autotrophic. They will use their psynging to learn the position of their prey and lie in wait in asteroid fields or planetary rings for their prey to make its way in-system towards the star to absorb its light and then attack as it leaves to have the most nutritious meal possible.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Grey Prowlers live in groups called pods made up of 10-40 members excluding juveniles and nursing females.
Average Intelligence
Grey Prowlers have a similar intelligence level to that of the Orca Whale of Old Earth.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
A Grey Prowler's head contains four eyes that provide binocular vision in a near 360° field of view, with each eye capable of independent movement from the others. Each eye has primary eyelids made of skin to wipe away debris and protect the eye as well as a permanent, clear secondary eyelid that prevents the eyeball from desiccating in the vacuum of space. All four eyes can focus forward to provide the Grey Prowler unparalleled depth perception on their target.
Grey Prowlers are one of the species of galactoceti that are capable of using psynging, a form of psychic echolocation, to navigate through the crowded asteroid fields that they nest in. Psychics with training in the Metapsionics field of psychic powers have claimed that the observation of a full pod of Grey Prowlers psynging is one of the most profound and beautiful experiences one can have in the galaxy, as each member of the pod adds to a collective harmony that allows the entire pod to extend the range of the radius of their psychic sense to encompass entire solar systems.

Genetic Ancestor(s)
Scientific Name
Galactocetus Orcinus griseus (Grey Galactic Whale of the Underworld/of Hell)
Lifespan
65-90 Years, Females tend to live longer than males, Oldest living member perished at the estimated age of 128 Years old
Average Weight
Males 8-9 Metric Tonnes (8.8-9.9 short tons),
Females 7-8 Metric Tonnes (7.7-8.8 short tons)
Average Length
Males tend to be larger than females at 8-10 meters in length while females range from 6-9 meters in length.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
As can be inferred by their name, Grey Prowlers are a dark ashy grey colour with mottling in a variety of patterns. Some sub-species have additional colours and patterns due to various ecological evolutionary factors.
