Beardspike

Given the prevalence of broad rivers and shallow seas the longboat has long been in use. The Pinnacle of this class of ship is the Dwarven Longboat crafted by Clan Waverider. The combination of dwarven craftsmanship and the strength and endurance of dwarves manning oars make the Beardspike a formidable vessel. Crafted of the ironwood native to the large island of Shale the Dwarven Longboat is durable, versatile and fast. Whether engaged in legal naval operations or piracy, the Dwarven Longboat has brought Clan Waverider wealth and respect.

The first true Beardspike was built by Selva Ironcoast two centuries before the Great Split. Within a few decades a fleet of Bearstrikes had been built and were begining to ply the waters of Therador. Traditionalists among the Dwarven clans were against this aquatic direction. This meant most of those first ships were largely crewed by dwarven women who were largely bared from the other martial ventures of the Clans. Historians agree that the success of the Beardspike is what led to the Great Split.
