Oskmey
Oskmey or Wish-Maiden is an Asir title given by one of the Odinsons to a woman who has proven herself powerful enough to forge her own Destiny and live it in accordance with the Asir ways.
Qualifications
While no specific education or obtainable document can grant this title, accolades certainly can.
For it is not due to your training and preparation anyone are bestowed this title, but by impressive acts.

Requirements
Traditionally this title was only held by women. It is a relic from a past where gender roles were more strictly defined, and yet it defines women rising from that role into something powerful, typically considered part of the man’s world.
Some look upon the tendencies of Odin, and wonder if he created this title less to honor strong women, but more to keep them closeby for less pure reasons.

Appointment
While either son of Odin has the right to appoint this title, it is almost unheard of that Vithar the Mute has done so.
Depending on specifics, Vali anoints the receiver either in private or at a ceremony, but in either case, it is celebrated at the first possible chance.

Duties
No written codex exists, but the duty of an Oskmey is to represent the Asir through their actions and deeds.
Most would do so by actively seeking out and overcoming challenges, bringing honor to the Odinsons.
To carry the title of Oskmey is to carry their seal of approval. And to squander that trust is to blemish the title.

Responsibilities
If needed, an Oskmey is expected to carry out the wishes of the Odinsons.
Directly as agents if needed, but otherwise through a life of glorious deeds.

Benefits
The original benefits were as vague as an Oskmey shall “want for nothing”. This was back when they would live in Asgard alongside Odin and be known and respected by all they would meet.
Today, an Asir wiser in the ways of humanity will offer a salary to any near-living or visiting Oskmey and settle with the Odinsons later.
Among those aware of the title, a visiting Oskmey will usually be honored and respected, treated like a respected guest, but it carries little political weight.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
An Odinson can at any time remove the title, though this is even more unheard of than Vithar granting it.
For the two cases remembered, one was the dismissal of a band of shieldmaidens too inspired by the long past, whose raiding practices did more harm to the Vettir-Human relations than could be ignored.
The other was a case of zealotry turned to discriminating murderous madness.

History
Traditionally there has always been a great overlap between the Valkyries and the Oskmey, but Odin’s Swan Maiden messengers equally earned the title of Oskmey.
The title is derived from two parts: ‘Mey’ simply translates to ‘maiden’ and ‘osk’ comes from ‘Oski’ – another name for Odin referring to his granting of wishes. The anglified name of “wish-maiden” is therefore a fair translation, but as is “maiden of Odin”.
After Ragnarok, it took many years for the survivors to settle and rebuild at Gimlé, and it seemed like this title died with Odin, however during a conversation between Vali and Thrud, he raised his vague consideration, and Thrud eagerly encouraged him to bring it back, prompting him to make a ‘bragafull’ promise to do so, earning high praise and cheers.

Cultural Significance
In the Germanic feyfolk society, the title carries great respect for what it means and for who you must be to have received it.
Within other Fey Folk cultures, it is quite possible that they have at least learned the word and would seek to either honor or put an Oskmey to a challenge, if they are familiar with the term.
With the reemergence of feyfolk, more humans are taught about feyfolk terms than ever before, but this will likely be a term, that most will be uncertain about, or at least about what it actually means, as much of Otherworld lore is still foreign or confusing to them.
