On the 18th and 19th of Gozran, 1800 CE, a heist was executed during and following a gala hosted by the Bureau of Civic Relics in Y’Matara’s Scholar’s Quarter. The gala, intended to showcase the Eye of Anub-Ka, an artifact of alleged eldritch origin, was attended by merchants, nobles, and scholars.
Shortly after the gala’s opening, a disruption occurred involving a reconstructed allosaurus skeleton, which was revealed to be an enchanted construct. The construct was unintentionally activated by a gala attendee, Ramiq al-Tahdir, resulting in significant property damage and a scandal that led to the dismissal of Marayam Bikh-Ret, a veteran Civic Guard.
Following the gala, a group of individuals—believed to be using forged merchant credentials—returned to the Bureau during the night. Through a coordinated infiltration, the group bypassed magical and physical security, successfully replaced the Eye of Anub-Ka with a near-identical decoy, and escaped undetected. Internal records suggest the involvement of Samira Ament, a disgraced former member of the Shemsu-Ra, who allegedly orchestrated the operation with the aid of known associates.
The theft was never formally resolved. The Eye of Anub-Ka was removed from civic control, and no suspects were charged. The Bureau refused further comment, and the incident remains an enduring embarrassment for the Civic Relics Office.
