World Timeline

A general timeline of historical events throughout the ages of the world, beginning at the rough approximation of The First Dragon War, and ending at the present day.   Major events, seen in the center of the flowchart, are generally information people would know provided they've received some level of education.   Beyond that, it's likely information only really well-known by historians and those proficient in History.

The Age of Strife

Beginning with The First Dragon War, the Age of Strifeis a speculative timeframe of when mortals first appeared in the Emergent Plane through the actions of the gods. This is when the very first mortal civilization emerged, and when the Dragon Wars were fought.   Time in this era is with the abbreviation "BDD", meaning "Before the Downfall of Dragons"

    The First Dragon War
    Military: War

The first war between dragons and mortals, when Mortals first fought against annihilation at the hands of furious dragons who held dominion over the world.   This conflict did not start immediately after Mortals arrived in the Emergent Plane, but it is not entirely clear when the initial events that led to the outbreak of the First Dragon War occurred. Historians speculate that it could've been anywhere between a few centuries and a few millenia before the first war began, though conflict between Mortals and Dragons likely began shortly after the arrival of the Gods.   Little exists as any kind of definitive record of the events of the time, and it is hard to distinguish whether the remnants of the time are related to the war itself or simply the consistent state of conflict between Mortals and Dragons.

The Founding of the First Empire
    Founding

Approximately 150 years after the conclusion ofThe First Dragon War, an empire was formed of the Mortals who survived. It was so long ago that historians debate about the specifics of this empire, but it is known it was the main force of Mortals in the Second Dragon War.   This empire was a reaction to the events of the The First Dragon war, seemingly having been developed to unify the mortals and prepare for the return of the Dragons.

    The Second Dragon War
    Military: War

Eventually the Dragons returned, making a second attempt to wipe Mortals off of the Emergent Plane. Once again they were pushed back by the Mortal races, this time causing a schism among the Dragons, with one side viewing Mortals as worthy of sharing their realm and the other bent on the destruction of these invasive species.

    The Dragon Pact
    Political event

Approximately a century after the end of The Second Dragon War, those Dragons who sought to live alongside Mortals signed a pact with The First Empire, desiring to work with mortals toward living in harmony within the Emergent Plane

The Rise of the First Empire
    Era beginning/end

When the Second Dragon War concluded, the combined Mortal races of The First Empire were free to surge forth in development, aided by the guiding hand of their new Dragon allies. The beginning of this growth is approximated to be around 3000 BDD.   From what records remain, it appears that for what amounts to thousands of years, this new harmony between Mortals and the ancient Dragons that saw value in them allowed this first of Mortal civilizations to prosper and grow, becoming almost a utopia that, in their ignorance, these first Mortals thought would persist in perpetuity. As one can easily conclude, this was not to be the case.

    The Third Dragon War
    Military: War

The Third Dragon War signified the end of an era, the last attempt by what are now referred to as Chromatic Dragons to destroy the world of Mortals.   This time, the mortal races under the First Empire were supported by the Dragons now known as Metallic Dragons, forcing back the last desperate attempt by the usurped ancient Dragons to regain their lost dominance over the Emergent Plane and crushing the hope of the Chromatics to return to an age where they ruled unquestioned.   Of the Dragon Wars, this was the most ferocious. The Chromatics had given up any interest in subjugating the Mortal races, and were bent entirely on the destruction of these usurpers to their rule. There is much speculation regarding this span of centuries, and across the many cultures of the world, this is a common timeframe for stories of great heroes and legendary battles, though such tales have undoubtedly fallen to exaggeration over the many centuries since. Most notably, this is a period of time which most historians can agree the Gods appointed certain Mortals to act as their Champions, deigning not to intervene directly in the conflict and instead, channelled their influence through their Mortal vessels to, finally, put an end to this seemingly relentless conflict between their creations and the draconic foes they faced. While there is much debate as to whether such Champions existed in the previous wars, their presence is the Third Dragon War is all but undeniable.

The Age of The First Empire

0 1400

The era in the history of Mortals dominated by The First Empire and ending with its dissolution. For most of this era, Mortals and Dragons lived in relative tolerance or even symbiosis with each other.   Time beginning in this era onwards is noted using the abbreviation "ADD", meaning "After the Downfall of Dragons".

The Golden Age of the First Empire
    Cultural event

With the conclusion of the Third Dragon War, the First Empire entered the period of its greatest advancement that we are aware of. The Chromatic Dragons no longer a significant threat, this unified civilization of Dragons and Mortals finally began to gain complete control over the world, under the guidance of their Draconic allies and the Champions whom the Gods had granted significant power and wisdom.   Throughout this golden age in the First Empire's history, it expanded and soared to, by definition, unprecedented heights in scientific, artistic, cultural, medicinal and magical advancement. The exploits of this first of mortal civilization were great in both splendor and hubris, and it is said the magnitude of their accomplishments in matters of spellcraft was matched only by the grandeur of their eventual destruction. Relics and records that date back to this time are incredibly rare, and fetch an alarmingly high price should they ever manage to surface. However, such occurences are exceedingly rare, particularly with regards to items and tomes of magical nature, with many remaining locked away in tall towers or deep dungeons belonging to magisters, nobles, or other such notably covetous or protective individuals.

The Fall of the First Empire
    Political event

Signs of The First Empire's decline begin to arise around 1150 ADD. What exactly denotes the beginning of this period of decline varies on the historian, as a number of apparent factors seem to have played a part.   The most important factors that can be identified from the limited history seem to be The Sundering, a bitter end to the Dragon Pact, and a civil war within the remains of The First Empire, the last of which ultimately resulted in The Great Diffusion and beginning of The Age of Conquest.

  • 1163 ADD

    The Sundering
    Religious event

The Champions had become arrogant, thinking themselves masters of the world. Mortals had driven back the Chromatic Dragons, and had built their whole civilization from nothing. In their arrogance, the Mortals desired a world free of the oversight of their deities, thinking themselves to have "outgrown" the Gods which sired them. In an act of unprecedented and misguided ambition, the leaders of this great civilization banded together and altered The Script such that these supreme divine beings were forever barred from The Emergent Plane.   This severing of the tie between the Gods and the Emergent Plane had cataclysmic effects on the world, shattering the single landmass of Isvanyr into continents and killing large swaths of the population in the following natural disasters. The aftermath of this action continues to ripple through the plane of Mortals even to this day, and even the least devout of Mortals would struggle to deny that this might have been one of the greatest cataclysms in the history of the world. Once again, a working of powerful magic irrevocably changed the course of history: A conclave of arrogant Dragons invited the Gods into the Emergent Plane, and a conclave of arrogant Mortals banished them once again.

Civil War in The First Empire
    Military: War

Shortly after The Sundering, the First Empire fell apart completely. As the proud civilization crumbled under its own weight during the chaos they brought upon themselves, the leaders of this ancient civilization fought for control over what remained. Various factions went to war with each other, and The First Empire ate itself alive over the span of nearly two centuries of infighting.

The Dissolution of the Dragon Pact
    Political event

Around 1200 ADD, after the beginning of the civil war that split The First Empire and the event referred to as "The Sundering", the dragons who had previously helped bring the first mortal civilization to its zenith seem to have lost faith in the mortal species, and disappeared into the fringes of the world. Some went into hiding, others simply left, but we know the dragons by and large cut ties with The First Empire around the same time as The Sundering.

The End of the First Empire
    Era beginning/end

By 1400 ADD, one would be hard pressed to argue any semblance of the First Empire remained. The former civilization was now mostly ruins, with roving bands of factions prowling the skeletons of their old civilization.   The first signs of The Great Diffusion appear here, with the most powerful of the remaining factions abandoning the innermost lands of The First Empire and seeking to build a new history for themselves on the former borders of the collapsed civilization.

The Age of Conquest

1400 3400

The Age of Conquest begins with the fall of the First Empire and dissolution of The Dragon Pact, and is when the Mortal species began to spread across the Emergent Plane and developing independent nations, and later engaged in frequent conquests against each other.   Unlike records from the previous eras lost during the fall of The First Empire, the beginning of The Age of Conquest is recorded clearly through cross-referencing what records remain of the time. It is through the dates marked on these records that approximations of eras prior are inferred.   It is worth keeping in mind that much of the details of the Age of Conquest were destroyed in the constant conflict for which the era gets its name. Wars noted here by dates are likely more accurately described as the start and end of a series of wars and border disputes between nations, rather than a singular long-lasting war. It is possible there were hundreds of wars and skirmishes throughout the Age of Conquest.

    The Great Diffusion
    Population Migration / Travel

The Great Diffusion is a name used to describe the separation of various groups from The First Empire. The unified civilization of mortals seems to have grown too big, too unsustainable, and when the dust settled on the civil war that destroyed the First Empire, mortals began questioning whether such varied beings could coexist seamlessly.   People migrated en masse, usually with others of their kind, and established kingdoms across the known world and beyond.   Some of these factions settled near the remnants of the First Empire, forming the ancient kingdoms from which our modern realms are derived.   Others went further still or were located elsewhere during The Sundering, but most of these groups would now be beyond the known world, only encountered by the most expeditious of sailors or adventurous of explorers. Speculation regarding the existence of far off civilizations is not unheard of, but discovering these survivors from the Great Diffusion would be a substantial undertaking. The events recorded here transpire primarily on the continent of Ilvanys, which is believed by its inhabitants to be the largest fragment of the supercontinent of Isvanyr.   One group we do know scattered into the wilds is the Orcs, whom had not been among the races of the First Empire and instead claimed the wilderness as their own.

Around the year 1500 ADD is when the first surviving texts begin to describe the formation of new kingdoms from the remnants of The First Empire.   Three civilizations carved out territory from the corpse of their former empire and established their own kingdoms: Kalaevaan, Ghoran-Tor, and Aethosa. Importantly, these factions were led by powerful surviving figures of The First Empire, and brought with them some of the knowledge of that civilization.

    Military: War

Beginning with a war between Aethosa and Yvach'qell, countless wars were fought between the ancient kingdoms of the Age of Strife. The end of these wars resulted in the beginning of the civilizations we are now familiar with.   While these conflicts are summarized in this timeline as singular wars, in many cases it appears that these were long affairs with starts and stops, and border disputes in between times of full-scale war. As such, it is worth noting that many of the longer wars outlined here likely encompassed starts and stops throughout their duration.

We can only speculate, but with the benefit of hindsight it is believed that Aethosa realized that their Herald of Flame was Malavach's gift to them.   Aethosa seems to have turned on the Herald of Flame.   Depending on your level of skepticism, you might believe it was simply a political move, in that Aethosa saw the results of unleashing their Herald upon a nation and decided the collateral damage was no longer worth the benefit.   Those more inclined toward the mystical aspects of the world, however, might argue that Aethosa realized that they had enlisted the aid of something they couldn't control.   Whatever the reason, Aethosa seems to have decided the Herald of the Flame was a threat after seeing what they did to Yvach'qell. The war was waged to expand Thallyn's borders, after all.   In doing so, however, Thallyn made a grievous error. Their initiative in the war meant that, when Kalaevaan brought Drakkor into the war against Thallyn, the main force of Thallyn was dispersed across the regions of Kalaevaan.   The armies of Drakkor marched straight into Thallyn, taking their capital in a matter of months while the forces of Thallyn struggled to decide between racing back to their home or pushing deeper into Kalaevaan.

Thallyn's forces are thrown into chaos
    Political event

Once Drakkor had taken the capital, the command structure of Thallyn was thrown into chaos.   Thallyn had overextended in their conquest of Kalaevaan, seeing an opportunity they felt they could not afford to ignore. They left enough of their military stationed in the important forts and towns on the borders of Drakkor to defend themselves, or so they thought. However, they also knew they'd need to dedicate a significant amount of their military might to invade Kalaevaan due to the defenders having a reputation for proficiency in Arcane warfare.   What they had not counted on, however, was Kalaevaan pulling Drakkor into the war and supplying the country with Kalaevaan's Arcane advancements.   Kalaevaan had left bait, and Thallyn had taken it eagerly.   In their campaign to expand their territory and carve out a swath of Kalaevaan, Thallyn had spread its forces across multiple settlements of varying distance from each other. Eventually they reached the interior of their enemy's land, where they discovered that they could no longer progress without extended sieges and costly battles.   Meanwhile, the forces of Drakkor, bolstered by their Arcane benefactors, were taking settlements that Thallyn expected to hold them off for months in the span of weeks.   The armies of Thallyn participating in the campaign began to see desertion in droves, some soldiers trying to return home while others saw the writing on the wall and wanted to make a life elsewhere while they could.

Kalaevaan had brought the bulk of their military, but left enough troops across their territories near Thallyn to prevent further expansion into their own regions. Aethosa had sent the majority of their armies to Yvach'qell, but still maintained a sizeable force across their realm.   When battle was joined, the fighting continued for over a week, both sides taking significant losses during the fighting. The barrage of Arcane and Divine spellcasting devastated the battlefield, warping the terrain around them.   Eventually, Aethosa's forces seem to have retreated first, but the army of Kalaevaan did not give chase, instead retreating closer to their own territory to recuperate their forces.   In the end, neither side claimed a clear victory, but the losses of this battle had a prominent influence on the events that followed.

Daelus had not made a major offensive against Aethosa in some time, due to the invasion of Orcs on the other side of their territory.   However, despite Aethosa having been embroiled in a war with Yvach'qell for decades and Daelus being raiding by the Orc Hordes, the war between the two nations which began many years ago never actually ended.   While the main forces of the two nations were elsewhere, the territory of Aethosa initially conquered by Daelus at the beginning of the war was still contested and had experience multiple smaller battles and changing of ownership over the duration of the war.   After a long hiatus, upon the return of the main force of Daelus to the Aethosan border, their war resumed in earnest. The forces of Daelus were led by a heroic warrior that had gained the title of "Hand of Daelus" during the campaign to drive off the Orcs, and leading the forces of Daelus, they swore to put an end to the war with Aethosa and triumph over the Herald of the Flame.   Based on the timing, it is assumed that word of the return of the forces of Daelus to Aethosan territory is what prompted the early withdrawal of Aethosa from The Battle of Tethrain Field.

    Yvach'qell is obliterated
    Disaster / Destruction

Without the Dragon of Yvach, the war between Yvach'qell and Aethosa should have ended quickly. The Herald of Flame apparently disagreed.   True to their name, the Herald of Flame brought fire and ruin to the lands of Yvach'qell, and the people of the nation fled in a panic, with any who stayed facing a burning demise. The Herald seemed determined to not simply dominate Yvach'qell, but annihilate it.   By the year 2450 ADD, the nation of Yvach'qell was a scorched graveyard, the Herald of the Flame not only conquering but obliterating the former nation.

Daelus begins to adopt Aethosan customs
    Cultural event

Over the long duration of intermingling between Daelus and Aethosan culture and ideology in the regions conquered early in the war, the people of the regions began to integrate.   As the forces of Daelus passed through the territory, there are some journals of soldiers that describe the people occupying the regions as showing a significant shift towards adopting some of the religious ideology of Aethosa, a shift which it seems the Hand of Daelus played a part in encouraging.   However, this seems to have been a point of contention within Daelus, with some adopting this shift and others strongly protesting it.

    The Herald returns to Aethosa
    Military action

The Battle of Tethrain Field resulted in significant losses to the forces of both Aethosa and Kalaevaan. With less than half of their remaining forces left to meet the encroaching army of Daelus, the Aethosa command once again demanded the return of The Herald of Flame to meet the forces of Daelus and their war hero.   This time, the Herald acquiesced, beginning their march back to Aethosa from the devastated lands of Yvach'qell.

    Aethosa is thrown into chaos
    Political event

The recent years made it clear that Aethosa's destruction was immiment.   Kalaevaan was still in their territory, recovering from the large-scale battle with the forces of Aethosa that left both of their main forces at less than half their strength.   Meanwhile, Daelus, led by their war hero, was marching toward the capital.   And, as if the situation wasn't dire enough, The Herald of Flame was returning, seemingly having turned traitor and gained the loyalty of a significant percentage of formerly-Aethosan forces over the campaign in Yvach'qell.   The nail in the coffin for anyone holding out hope was the death of the Aethosan king. Their cause of death is unclear, but the two most likely options seem to be assassination, or suicide. Either way, this only further solidified the imminent doom that Aethosa now faced.

    The Pact of Luvanion
    Political event

While the forces of Aethosa prepared for the decisive battle with their enemies, the armies of Daelus continued their advance deeper into Aethosan territory.   During this advance, word reached the ears of both Kalaevaan and Daelus that the Herald of Flame was returning to Aethosa. In light of this, the Hand of Daelus sought to meet with the forces of Kalaevaan, their old enemies, to discuss a temporary pact.   The meeting was held in the Kalaevaan-occupied city of Luvanion, where the two sides came to the mutual agreement that Aethosa and their Herald would continue to be a threat to both Daelus and Kalaevaan if Aethosa was not stopped.   With their forces allied, the two armies marched upon the capital of Aethosa in unison, with the intent to put an end to the ancient kingdom.

The death of the King of Thallyn
    Military action

The armies of Thallyn were in disarray, and in enemy territory. Word had reached their commanders that the capital, Erutak, had been taken by the forces of Drakkor, and furthermore, that the main force of Kalaevaan was returning.   Lacking the information that Kalaevaan was not in fact returning to combat the forces of Thallyn, the commanders of the army had grown resentful of their ruler. Their actions thus far had been reckless, and now when the consequences of those actions arose, they were now indecisive.   The king of Thallyn, who'd been travelling with the army, mysteriously disappears from history in 2454 ADD, and the forces are taken over by one of Thallyn's generals after this point. One can only assume that the malcontent generals are responsible for their king's death.   This then caused a schism among the remaining forces of Thallyn. Some commanders joined together with the intent to return to Erutak, mustering the troops they could and beginning their journey. Others, however, took their own forces and disbanded from the army.   While there is not a clear record of what happened to these soldiers who left, it is likely that they largely became vagabonds in Kalaevaan, mercenaries, or went off to settle regions at the edges of civilization.

    The Luvanion Pact besieges Aelos
    Military action

The joint forces of Kalaevaan and Daelus arrived at the Aethosan capital of Aelos.   The acting rulers of Aethosa had retreated to Aelos in the hope that old wounds would open between Kalaevaan and Daelus upon the two forces meeting, and perhaps Aethosa could capitalize on a battle between the two.   This, of course, did not occur, leaving Aethosa with little option but to hold out in Aelos and hope that the Herald of Flame returned in time.

The Forces of Thallyn are turned
    Plague / Epidemic

The armies of Thallyn that intended to return home were likely to be the first who encountered the results of the catastrophe in Nerekhana.   It's unclear when exactly it happened, but it seems likely that the forces of Thallyn that did not march on Erutak encountered the Undead horde growing in Kalaevaan, and were consumed into it. No further record of the forces exist after the death of the King of Thallyn, so it is probable that they were absorbed into the Undead ranks during their return journey.

    The Corruption of Nerekhana
    Disaster / Destruction

In the year 2456, the Kalaevaan city of Nerekhana fell to a cataclysmic event. Kalaevaan had long dedicated itself to the study of magic, and this pursuit of of mastery over the arcane fostered a culture of ambition.   This apparently culminated in some kind of catastrophic failure when mages in Nerekhana attempted to perform a high-level Necromantic ritual that they did not fully understand.   This spellcasting seems to have resulted in the destruction of Nerekhana almost immediately, and a corruption that spread through the lands of Kalaevaan, depriving the lush jungle of life and turning the land barren.   An undead horde emerged from Nerekhana, driven by the desire to exterminate life in the region.

    The fate of Aethosa
    Cultural event

With the battle of Aelos concluded, the armies of Aethosa were no more. Their King was dead, their generals fallen, and the forces of both Kalaevaan and Daelus were outside the gate.   Seeing little option, the people of Aelos entreated with the surviving armies of the Luvanion Pact to leave their city in peace, as little remained of the decision-makers or military to contest the forces outside their walls, offering tribute in the form of medical aid.   This leap of faith, or desperation, paid off for the people of Aelos. The forces of the Luvanion Pact were weary of bloodshed after the battle concluded, and many of their surviving soldiers were on the verge of death. Kalaevaan and Daelus agreed, all parties involved hoping beyond hope that perhaps this could be a momentous step towards ending the constant warfare between their nations.   Food from the supplies of the besieging forces was distributed among the starving population of Aelos, and representatives of Kalaevaan and Daelus to discuss the future.   Aethosa was in ruins. The Herald had, much as they had done to Yvach, scorched a path through the land of Aethosa on their return to the capital. The protracted wars had rendered the military of Aethosa irrelevant, and the political turmoil of the last few decades has diminished the power of the nation to equal irrelevance.   It was decided that neither Kalaevaan or Daelus would lay claim to Aelos, nor seek further conquest in Aethosan lands, with both intending to return to their home countries after some recuperation in the city of Aelos until Winter concluded.

    The Founding of Dracallyn
    Founding

Drakkor had occupied the lands of Thallyn for some time, and the armies of Thallyn never returned, nor did their King.   After nearly a decade of occuptation, the people of Thallyn began to see their invaders as being, in fact, an improvement. The King of Thallyn was not a good ruler, and was blinded by an ambition to expand their borders to realms beyond, regardless of the cost to their population.   During the years of occupation by Drakkor, relations between the invaders and the invaded unexpectedly improved: The Drakkor forces had a strict code of honor, which meant their occupation did not result in the looting and ravaging of the people of Thallyn that so commonly accompanies armies as they pass through enemy territory.   Initially, of course, tensions were high, and the usual assassination attempts and clandestine operations by the movers and shakers of Thallyn against their occupiers occurred. But after these dissidents were rooted out and either imprisoned or executed, Drakkor discovered that the general population of Thallyn was apparently quite receptive to their invaders.   This amicable occupation seems to largely be credited to a Dragonborn that in the history of Dracallyn is recorded as "The Unifier". Their place in history is brief, but it seems they worked to foster relations between Drakkor and Thallyn, with the intent to merge the two nations together, seamlessly.   Over the years since Drakkor took Erutak, this figure seems to achieved success, and the ruler of Drakkor met with the acting ruler of Thallyn, with The Unifier acting as a mediator. It was decided that their two lands would be joined once again, and a new city built between the capitals of both nations. This city, as well as the newly formed nation, was given the name Dracallyn.

The forces of Daelus return home
    Cultural event

Finally, after a long campaign, the armies of Daelus returned to their homeland.   As far as can be gathered, it seems the ruler of Daelus had no worthy successor to name. When the Hand of Daelus returned home as a hero, they were named successor to the throne, a request which they appear to have initially denied, but eventually accepted.   The armies of Daelus were received as heroes, and once again the Hand of Daelus was hailed by the population as being the best of what the realm stood for.   The Aethosan population that existed in the settlements taken early in the war had done so without much resistance, and this mix of population resulted in a blending of cultures over time.

The Forces of Kalaevaan are faced with a horrific truth
    Plague / Epidemic

When the armies of Kalaevaan returned to their homeland, what they found horrified them.   Expecting to be welcomed as war heroes, instead they discovered the land of Kalaevaan overrun with some affliction, its origin unknown to them. While the army had been in Aethosa, the corruption that began in Nerekhana had spread through much of Kalaevaan, and the vibrant jungles had grown rotten, drained of the life that sustained them. Everywhere they went they found ruin, and decay, and Undeath.   While fighting a war to stop an external threat to Kalaevaan, their home had been devastated by an internal threat: One created by the same arcane obsession that had brought them victory against Aethosa.   The forces of Kalaevaan, depleted as they were, retook the city of Halaikos from the Undead that had claimed it, and now were forced to process that their realm was just... gone.

The Source of Kalaevaan's Corruption is discovered
    Plague / Epidemic

By best approximation, the surviving people of Kalaevaan discovered the source of the corruption that had ruined their lands in 2465 ADD.   A Lich, wielding Necromancy beyond the scope of known magic to the spellcasters of Kalaevaan, had established an Undead stronghold in Nerekhana, and from their seat of power had been commanding legions of Undead to attack regions across Kalaevaan.   Not all of Kalaevaan had yet fallen to the Undead, but even those that hadn't were already doomed. The rot that creeped over the lands was rendering the land of Kalaevaan inhospitable, and before long the region would become a wasteland.   Recognizing the gravity of this threat, a desparate plea was sent magically from Kalaevaan, beseeching the Hand of Daelus to come to their aid in defeating what seemed like another threat on par with the Herald of Flame. However, returning from such a prolonged conflict, the forces of Daelus were loathe to return to war so quickly.

    Kalaevaan Begins to Fall
    Military: War

While word was sent out to Daelus requesting the aid of their Hero, the returning forces of Kalaevaan were left to fight a protracted war against the forces of Undeath consuming, quite literally, their country.   With every battle, Kalaevaan's forces dwindled, and those of the Undead swelled. The writhing tide of corpses were bolstered regardless of whether the battle was a victory or defeat for Kalaevaan, and all the while the corruptive influence sapped the land, turning the verdant flora and fauna to dust and corpses.   As the country rotted from within, it grew more and more apparent that this threat would not be limited to the borders of Kalaevaan, and the war-weary countries on its borders began to fear they would be next.

    Political Turmoil in Daelus
    Cultural event

As the remaining regions of Kalaevaan continued to fall to the corruption of Undeath, The Hand of Daelus, now ruler of the country, felt strongly compelled to come to the aid of the forces that they fought alongside in the war against the Herald of Flame.   However, with the country still recovering from its recent wars with the Orcs and Aethosa, many of those within the upper layers of Daelus' political sphere felt strongly that it was time to tend to their own borders, rather than involving themselves in the problems of their neighbors.   The plea from Kalaevaan had not gone unheeded by the Hand, and over the decade since their return to Daelus it seems there were a great many divisive moments within the leadership of the country over the issue. The Hand's capability as a leader came into question among a subsection of the population, spearheaded by those within the hierarchy who took issue with their ruler insisting on providing resources to Kalaevaan despite the fact that the country was struggling to regain its footing.   This eventually culminated in the Hand of Daelus forsaking their title and abdicating the throne, marching into Kalaevaan with whatever forces would join him, primarily comprised of those who'd fought alongside the Hand in the previous war.   This desertion out of a sense of duty would ultimately result in a fracturing of the country of Daelus.

    Dracallyn Mobilizes
    Military action

Dracallyn finds itself in an alarming position.   The nation was still in its infancy, only having combined the nations of Drakkor and Thallyn a little over a decade prior, and was still restructuring itself in the wake of this pact brought to fruition by The Unifier.   However, Dracallyn shared a border with Kalaevaan, which meant that they were intimately aware of what was happening in their neighboring country.  It seems they were also aware that the Hand of Daelus had begun to march to Kalaevaan's aid.   As the corruption spread further towards Kalaevaan's borders, the nation of Dracallyn knew that if they did not lend their aid to the conflict, their own lands would likely fall next to the Undead scourge.   The military of Dracallyn marched into Kalaevaan, with the intent to join with what remained of their ally's forces at the city of En-khanri. The city was one of the final strongholds surviving in Kalaevaan, and a force of animated dead had already begun to march upon it.    According to Dracallyn's history, the Unifier marched with the army of the nation they helped create.

    The End of Ghoran-Tor
    Plague / Epidemic

Very little is known about the fall of Ghoran-Tor. What remains of the lost Dwarven Kingdom through tales passed down by the Dwarves differs, but it seems to have been the result of a cataclysmic event.   By best approximation, some kind of affliction localized to their underground settlements spread throughout Ghoran-Tor, consuming it from within. As far as Dwarven history claims, some form of "madness" spread throughout the population. The surviving Dwarven Clans spread across the mountains and hills of the world, establishing the subterranean homes that survive into the present.   Ghoran-Tor remains a historic enigma, an ancient civilization that disappeared at an unknown time and without notice. It is said the remains of these lost Dwarven cities still hold untold riches, but even the Dwarves cannot find the heart of their ancient empire, and what little is known about the sudden collapse of Ghoran-Tor is inferred from scant writings and former small settlements. It seems that for the most part, the other civilizations of the time weren't even aware of this event.   Most likely, Ghoran-Tor is now called home by many dark and terrible things of the deep.

    The War For Kalaevaan
    Military: War

What remained of Kalaevaan was crumbling, with each of their magical cities falling to the Undead and, as they did, bolstering the magical power of the Lich who led the writhing horde.   By 2475 ADD, only a fraction of the nation of Kalaevaan remained. The armies of the dying country decided to make their last stand at a stronghold named Kha-Turek.   As Kha-Turek came under siege, the armies of The Hand of Daelus and Dracllyn marched upon Nerekhana instead. The reasons for this are contested among historians, as well as whether it was the right decision.   Kha-Turek ultimately fell to the Undead, but in turn, Nerekhana fell to the living. The end of this war resulted in the destruction of the Lich, and marked the end of the Age of Conquest.
