Ylaelyd

The Ylaelyd are jungle trolls present in southern Ærellion. Archetypical jungle trolls, the Ylaelyd are interesting because their range once stretched across the savanna, leading to chnages in their social structure to accomodate. However, most of these savanna trolls have since been driven away. The Ylaelyd are worshippers of the rain cult, a religion which venerates the rain gods above all, and which scorns fire. The modern Ylaelyd are broken into three different groups; the Phuaenlung, the Hwiykah, the Thankwon, and the Pisawak.
The aforementioned savanna trolls, the Phuaenlung have been all-but eradicated from their main homeland, which centered around Yvalāntu. The Phuaenlung were once more common in this region, but were targeted by the Kingdom of Ilmoric due to their destructive raiding practices. The trolls were hunted like game and usually fed to animals, their hides occasionally turned into tarps and the like. This reduced their population enough that the neighboring Anemoi were able to start moving into the savanna, as they were no longer such a threat. Following the collapse of Ilmoric, the Followers of the Four would flee to the savanna, where they largely eliminated the remaining trolls; the Ursumar of the Divinity of Ashēryku and later the Divinity of Bēlqūašdu took care of these rest. Nonetheless, despite relentless persecution and outright extermination over the last 800 years, trolls are hard to kill. Some of them have managed to survive in small communities, but being jungle trolls they never learn and continue their brutish raids even today. They are mostly found in the small pockets of jungle between the mountains of Vránzoúala and Yvalāntu's savannas, as well as (ironically) on the borders of Ilmoric because few wish to travel there. Some of the Phuaenlung have also found their way into Ilmoric, where they have become the Pisawak. Since the Pisawak can't leave Ilmoric, they have developed a more diverging culture back towards jungle inhabitation as the land went fallow.
Out west, the Thankwon and Hwiykah cultures can be found. The Hwiykah is a smaller group in the far west, while the Thankwon are more central, and have more living space. They have small differences in attitude and language, mainly brought on by the size of their inhabited region. Of late, some Thankwon have began consorting with demons.
