The Revelation Seekers
The Revelation Seekers is a large and rather nebulous organization whose goal is purportedly to "find the truth of the deities or lack thereof of this Realm, to preserve ancient artefacts, and to dispel the mythology surrounding both deities and ancient civilizations." However, under their umbrella are numerous competing factions, goals and even whole corporations, each with their own goals, and all of whom influence the society itself. Begun as a small guild dedicated to researching the theological side of the texts of the Divine Library of Mindrath, an ancient library built by an unknown hand, for which the gnomes are the caretakers of, it soon grew in scope with the linking of other libraries to this one. Over the past four centuries the society greatly expanded into the organization it is today, holding more influence than perhaps any non-governmental organization in the world.
Structure
The Revelation Seekers has several different division, each of which in theory work together for the greater good of the organization. The oldest of these wings, and original core of the Seekers is the Theological Research Division, which examines texts and other artefacts from around the world in order to both theorize and uncover the truth of the world's creation. The second Wing is the Temporal Research Division, which studies texts in and artefacts in a similar but in a non-theoretical way, focusing on chronicaling historical events as well as the cultures and states which produced these artefacts. Generally, since documents from most divine libraries have never been proven to belong to any culture, they are not considered, but other artefacts are generally studied by this division before they are passed to the Theologists, in order to gain context for them. The Seekers also have the Archaelogical Wing, which focuses on obtaining said artefacts via dig sites or which are in hard-to-access locations (both legally and illegally) as well as the Procurement Wing which focuses on buying, stealing, and otherwise obtaining or copying textual artefacts which one does not need to excavate or explore for. The Seekers also have their Business Wing, which manages several important parts of the Seekers- investment, salaries, and sales. As an organization which manages thousands of employees and theorists across most of the contionents, this Wing is critical to ensuring the Seekers can all be paid on time, artefacts can be bought (and sold if they are of no interest to the society), and operations can be funded. To this end, the Society has become a massive investor in many of the Gnomish corporations and nation, to the point where some worry it will eventually become its own corporation and minimize the actual Seeking. The final Wing is the military wing, because the Realm is danerous and the organization needs their own defense force. Composed of several warships to protect shipping as well as multiple regiments of mercenaries to protect expeditions, they are a fairly minor but absolutely critical part of the Seekers.
The organization is further split between four distinct factions- the Spiritualists, the Skeptics, the Conservatives, and the Marketers. The Spiritualists are those who have become convinced that the Revelation Seekers are very close to determining the truth of the world's creation, and that indeed many pieces are in place. They are in favor of spreading the small but growing Revelationist religion to the masses and teaching them what they see as the truth. In contrast, the Skeptics believe that because so many pieces of the "True Faith" are still missing it is impossible to actually say that the Seekers are on the right track, and that more data and texts must be studied before spreading any such faith. Gathered around the old guard, the Conservatives are a small faction primarily composed of academics who believe the Seekers organization has grown too large for its own good, and that all this talk of spreading the "True Faith" as well as corporitization, are antithecal to the original studious goals of the organization. They often side with the Skeptics in debates, but oppose them on other matters due to their conservatism. However, their main foe is the Marketeers, who see both the "True Faith" and the artefacts trade as a business opportunity. They seek profit above all else, and while some really want more profit to obtain more artefacts with these funds later on, other just want the organization to stop with this religion and truth-seeking "nonsense".
Assets
The main presence of the Seekers is on Halyren and Ærellion, and most of their business is based there. However, there are also major Seeker presences on An'seidna, which has a rich historical record, Cet'aenn, whose ancient treasures are largely unexplored, and on Telgren, whose wealth and history make the continent attractive to the non-theological wings (since the Telgrener Divine Libraries are understudied and difficult to get to from the Halyric-Ærellic core of the organization). Continents such as Ifyrial, Synarxes, and Yyradayn are often considered too dangerous to waste expeditions on, but the continent of Mortvügg has recently become more open to artefact extraction, and is consequentially seeing active expansion.
The division of resources is approximately as follows:
- Halyren: ~25%
- Ærellion: ~20%
- Cet'aenn: ~17%
- An'seidna: ~17%
- Telgren: ~13%
- Mortvügg: ~5%
- Ifyrial, Synarxes, Yyradayn: ~3% (combined)
