Tarilew

Tarilew, meaning ascent in Talpehlari, is the main religion of the Talpehlari people. However, not all Talpehlari groups follow this faith; it is practiced near universally by the Tug'hugaan, Shoma, Solvshilar, and by around half of the Neshpara, Savardalon, and Hashogabat, with negligable followings in the other groups. The main feature of this religion is its focus on the ability of mortals to obtain deity, and for its harsh worship. Believers maintain that by slaying a god, the killer can obtain their power, and combined with their own can become even stronger than the previous deity. However, to slay a god, one must enter their realm, that of the dead, so they must have died. The Tarilew faithful believe that upon death, great warriors will ascend to the heavens, where they will battle the gods for supremacy. They believe these fallen warriors will send tokens as proof they have usurped a god, and so the faithful are always on the watch for signs. Due to the usurpation of divine power being via combat, almost all the gods are war gods as without fighting prowess they could not survive as gods. Many of these gods have had their power taken by mortals and died, but a few are believed to have survived with parts of their power and reside in the underworld. Thus, the Tarilew worship one dead pantheon and a deader second, aside from the few gods they believe remain alive since the dawn of time.
