Primordial Elven Tech
Primordial Elven Tech, or PET for short, is a broad category containing various mechanical, artificial, and magical technologies which were once used by the ancient elven Primordials. Unable to be replicated using modern manufacturing techniques, PET is a mysterious category of equipment, and is in high demand for use in advancing the field of artificery in particular, though it also has applications for more general industrial or magical fields.
There is an unknown amount of PET which remains functional in the current year, with many of the most powerful and valuable inventions long having fallen to overuse, lack of maintenance, or simply through being destroyed in wars. Therefore, much of what remains is either extraordinarily expensive to obtain, faulty, simple enough to be replicable, or generally without use or application. However, there are some examples of MechaniTech which remain in use today, and a few examples of reverse engineering, mimicry, or independent discovery of certain parts of the technology. For their part, most elves maintain that PET was given to them by their gods and that the decline of their technology and subsequent destruction of their home continent is due to having lost the favor of their deities.
The following is a list of confirmed PET that has been verifiably fact-checked. Do not believe conspiracy scryers and their preposterous claims about these items.
- Continental Teleporters: The continental Teleporters were large magical portals which had the ability to transport beings between two bonded pairs. The destruction of one teleporter would render the other unusable, and anyone in transport would be automatically transported to the nearest magical hotspot as a failsafe. Originally there were four of these objects (two on Salazuir, one on Cet'aenn, and one on Ærellion), but one was destroyed during the wars for independence on Cet'aenn, while the two on Salazuir were destroyed during the collapse of the continent. The sole remaining teleporter has been left to rot in Ærellion; with nothing to connect to it is worthless and has long since fallen to ruin.
- Flying Machines: A complex combination of artifice and old-fashioned magic, believed the have been able to be manufactured in limited capacity by the Primordials. The lack of a complete relic has made it difficult to determine how exactly they functioned, but records attest to some sort of core powered by magical batteries. With proper care, a Flying Machine could presumably be maintained in the present day, but the final relics were destroyed many centuries ago during conflicts between the Solar Elves.
- Mechanim: Robotic guardians which were used as enforcers, similarly to the modern golems. Although often beautifully sophisticated, they are often worth more for their fine metallurgy which can be stripped and reused, as golems can essentially do the same work but cheaper. They may have been prestige items more than proper soldiers.
- Technades: Similar to a magical bomb, technades seem to be an explosive device commonly issued to elven soldiers. They are speculated to have had a variety of effects that combined magical and physical explosions. Most examples were either used during wartime or are nonfunctioning duds whose magic has leaked out, thus making them difficult to study.
- Roboswords? (name TBD): some sort of mechanical sword that automatically parries. I'm thinking like a steampunk sword + magic sword. Presumably OP af but some could presumably still exist.
- More technologies will be added as they are discovered
