Orelite

The Orelite culture is dominant among goblins in the more southern reaches of Telgren, defined as those in the Fenmark or south of the Plaires Centralis and to the west of Cloriadme. The Orelites are mostly slaves, although some free population exists in the major cities. Orelites were brought as slaves, mostly by Gnomish traders, during the colonization of Ifyrial. They were chosen over orcs because goblins proved far easier to control and were less likely to kill themselves rather than be enslaved, as well as requiring less security. This ease of transport enable the massive goblin slave industry to reach Telgren even as the Telgreners utilized primarily orcish slaves in the colonies.
Although many of the goblin slaves brought to Telgren were sent north into the Orentesh or the Relvetsians, always eager for slaves, they were also popular (though less so) in the southern areas, especially as those regions served as the main stopping point for Gnomes on their way north. This goblin slave class would supplement field labor for the most part, acting as clean up crews and toiling the fields of the lords. Wealthy peasants could also purchase slaves to do their work for them, and goblins proved adept at this, though dishonest and hard to keep enslaved due to their dexterity and skill at hiding. Many states passed anti-goblin laws, mandating the capture and returning of goblins to their owners in order to reduce instances of escaped slave banditry. As freed goblins became somehwat more common, the law was complicated. However, many laws regarding goblins continue to exist, and the populace dwells in a gray area, working as dockhands and other menial jobs in large cities (as they are likely to be chased out or enslaved venturing into rural regions).
Despite South Telgren's generally good track record in race relations, Orelites are still considered a monsterous race, and treated with caution by most. They generally gravitate to cities because this is where others of their kind can be found and they can form families. Of course, goblin population growth is usually absurd, but their conditions of squalor have for the most part prevented rapid population growth. Some cities have also made legislature forbidding goblins from having too many children, or selling those excess children into slavery, which is harsh but does seem to be working to an extent. As in many other places with goblin slaves, "participating in the creation of mongrels" (half goblins) is social suicide, even for the lower classes, so there are very few of them, and they are often treated worse than pure goblins.
