Naiads

Naiads share a similar history to Dryads, having been formed from the same greater spirits who fled to the eighth realm. After Nephraen took pity on these spirits and invited them to the eighth realm, many of them became her followers and devoted allies. However, some of these spirits felt a greater affinity for Yhnami, the goddess of water and turned to her for guidance. While few in number compared to the dryads, they also developed a unique identity and many gifts from Yhnami. Over time, the Naiads became intermediaries between the creatures of the lakes and rivers and the other dryads. Although not forsaking Nephraen entirely, they only recieved some of her gifts, but were compensated by Yhnami for this as she felt sad the Naiads had missed out on Nephraen's later gifts due to primarily following her. Yhnami negotiated a deal with Ansiin to grant the Naiads the gift of youth and beauty for all their days. She also granted them purity of mind, spirit, and body.
With the gods long forgotten, their gifts have largely faded, but the Naiads still retain several important ones. They are still able to live underwater completely fine despite lacking gills and can freely communicate with freshwater creatures. Additionally, so long as Naiaids remain completely pure, they retain youth and beauty for an indefinite amount of time. However, should one fall in love with a mortal they will age (albiet slowly) and eventually pass from this world. Because of this, the Naiads try to stay away from mortals, and rarely interact with the directly, but they are not above sending aid in times of great strife. In a darker twist, however, some Naiads actually seek out interaction with the outside world, not to find acceptance, but to lure unwary mortals to their deaths. They can use their great beauty and innocence to fool mortals into falling in love, then strike and drown them. These Naiads are usually relatives of those who choose life on the surface, compensating for their hurt. They are not accepted in most Naiad communities.
Also, some Naiads come to regret going to the surface, and since the process is irreversable after a certain amount of time, these Naiads often turn to dark sorcery to retain their youth and beauty, desperately grasping at straws to retain what they once had freely. Such Dark Naiads are scorned even more than the seductress ones, and any who deals with them is usually immediately punished and expelled. However, there have been instances of Dark Naiads finding followers in groups of seductresses and seeking great power...
