N'comm
The N'comm are the only cultural grouping of Varaiden to be found on Ærellion, though it has been proposed that there were once other groups in the past. Due to their backwater swamp domain and the general unwillingness of Varaiden to interact with the outside world, little is known of them by the outside world, though they possess a rich culture of their own. Much of the history of the N'comm has been filed with violent conflict with outsiders, from brutal wars with the Hymari, to slow but steady defeats at the hands of the Vaṉṉākkaḷ humans. Their skirmishes against the Mapinguan have also been violent, as the Varaiden see the jungle as prime real estate, atttempting to seize land in times of strength. More recently, they have also come into conflict with Minotaurs seeking to expand their influence along the coast and who wish to enslave them.
The N'comm can be split into three different groups; the Mailan, the Sulan, and the Rithayan. The Mailan live closer to the shores, inhabiting regions around the mangroves and more brackish swamps. They have been known to range into the open ocean in order to fish and hunt. As the coastal land is more desireable than the inland swamps, the Mailan have also been the most affected by foreign attacks. Mailan culture extends slightly inland, but not much past the hills. More inland, and generall in the north/central region of the swamps, the Sulan can be found. The largest, but most sparsely populated region of the swamp, they often live in small communities on islands. Some Sulan communities can be found up to and even on the hills bordering the swamp. Finally, the Rithayan are mostly found along the major river but also near several other rivers in the north-west of the swamp, as they usually fish. They're the main group under threat from the Vaṉṉākkaḷ.
