Meduzoans
Meduzoans are a subrace of merfolk which have the lower half of a jellyfish. They are extremely strange and are usually migratory, drifting through the deep ocean in clans. In order to not become separated, they weave special ropes out of their tentacles and tether to each other in chains that can last for miles. When Meduzoans do settle, it is typically as they grow older and don’t wish to live in the harsh deep oceans. Meduzoans are rather disturbing to most people and this probably contributes to their isolation. Luckily for the average person, Meduzoan tentacles, despite being shocking like a jellyfish, can be controlled. This means that unless a Meduzoan doesn’t know a person is there, they won’t usually hurt people. Meduzoans typically eat by fishing with their longer and thinner tentacles, though occasionally prey can get caught in their large central tentacles if not paying attention. However, they can’t actually eat with their tentacles, so they have to bring the food up to their mouth. Additionally, somewhere under their tentacles they have reproductive organs, but I don’t want to talk about those because I’m not a degenerate. Besides their powerful stinging tentacles, Meduzoans carry usually primitive, though sharp, weapons in order to defend themselves from foes. These weapons also serve to defend themselves from other Meduzoans, since Meduzoans are immune to their own sting. Because life on the open ocean is harsh, there are bands of raiders that steal possessions from other Meduzoans, not to mention pirates. Usually, these criminals target a Meduzoan clan’s posessions, which they usually keep on a bone and kelp box, raft, or other storage device. For this reason, this raft typically stays in the center of the group.
Weligoon the Traveler is perhaps the most famous Meduzoan. Back in 1877 S.C., Weligoon claimed to have discovered a completely new continent past the great trench. Others trying to repeat this feat have been killed by the Karpori or disappeared and are presumed dead, leading most to declare him a liar and indirect murderer. Nonetheless, should this fabled "New World" be discovered by another, it is certain his name, and that of the Meduzoans in general, will be elevated above their present low status.
