Languages of the Underwater Races

Due to the nature of how different sounds travel underwater, the underwater standard alphabet is quite limited in its letter range. Developed by Gnomes in collaboration with Merfolk in order to accurately display their nations on maps, the standard alphabet contains the following letters: a, æ, i, j, ḫ, l, r, ŕ, u, w. Of these letters, a, i, j, l, r, u, and w are pronounced as standard characters, while ŕ represents the rolled r, æ represents ay or ai, and ḫ represents kh.
