Kxahite of Durumzend
The Kxahite of Durumzend is the most grand and powerful nation seen by the Storm Giants in many a year. Some say that they are destined to form the first Kxsarate in thousands of years. Their ruling clan, the powerful Durumzevir, clawed their way to the top in such a way that has made them immensely respected, despite their humble beginnings, which has only increased rumors that they are blessed by the gods. Indeed, the clan certainly maintains that the gods have, indeed, blessed them. As the custodians of the holy mountain of Zauluja Vekh, where a continuous thunderstorm has been raging for thousands of years, said to be the home of the gods themselves, their claim is hard to refute.
History
The history of Durumzend begins with a young giant named Klaras Durumzevir. As the Nasylč Staršyn of the wealthy (but non-noble) Durumzevir clan, he was groomed to lead it from birth. However, events got in the way of this. Klaras was captured by an invading army in 1403 SC, and was taken prisoner. As the first son, he was no soldier, though he did have combat training, and thus had gone with his father to fight the invaders. Klaras was imprisoned for several years during the war, during which his father died in battle. Assuming Klaras was dead, his younger brother was granted the title of Staršyn, but due to being underage his uncle ruled as Staršyn Regent. As Staršyn Regent, he swore fealty to the invaders and began collaborating with them following their victory in the war.
When Klaras was freed in 1406, after the invaders' victory, he returned to his home, but was denied entry to his home as it was believed he was a ghost sent to haunt them by demons. His uncle had concocted the story in order to maintain power, and sent thugs to beat him up and kick him out. Thus, he was barred from his home and forced to wander. He made a pilgrimage to the great Zauluja Vekh, where he became inspired by the gods. His position as the only legal Staršyn who had not sworn fealty to the invaders meant that he could gather allies into a makeshift army and wage war upon the invaders. Due to his lack of capitulation, those who swore fealty to him were likewise not obligated to bow to the conquering Jahčov. In order to complete this plan, he first marched on his home village and stormed his own clan home, killing his traitorous uncle, enforcing his rule over his family. Those who still claimed he was dead and attempted to assassinate him (mainly his uncle's closest friends who had much to gain from his position) were executed for treason. Him and his allies secured the village and declared the Jahčov of Durumzend in 1417. In fierce battles and skirmishes, he struck the off-guard invaders hard and secured a small region, but was unable to fully overthrow them. As the region he had secured was too lightly populated to match his opponent, he settled for building a crack army. When he died, his son continued the army building, and each Durumzevir would slowly expand the domain until the reign of Mitzan III. Beginning in 1718, Mitzan was able to take advantage of turmoil in the region to drive his army up to the very base of Zauluja Vekh, conquer the Kxahite in the region, and establish the Kxahite of Durumzend. While his position was still tenuous, control over the mighty settlement of Vekh was enough to make them a major player in Storm Giant politics, and the city was declared the new capital of the nation. Thanks to their humble beginnings, the surrounding nations often tried to invade, but the Durumzevir always held on and conquered many of these early foes. From there, they worked closely with the priests of Zauluja Vekh which earned them the common moniker of Holy Kxah. Many faithful joined their cause and catapulted them to leading status. In the past century, the other clans finally began to recognize the legitimacy of the Durumzevir state, which allowed Durumzend to make political moves and secure subjugation of several lesser neighboring clans which had been used as buffers by the surrounding nations since the time of Mitzan. In the late 1900s, Durumzend would make moves into the Orcish-held drylands, securing the subjugation of several proto-states found in the region. Marking the first time in centuries a Storm Giant nation attempted to gain a foothold in Orcish lands, the success of this venture has inspired other clans to try similar invasions.
