Kmolia

A species of merfolk that instead of resembling fish, resemble an octopus. They look humanoid from the pelvis up. They have gills on their necks and yellow corneas. From the waist down they have eight tentacles that resemble an octopus. The most common types of Kmolia are the Red Kmolia, also known as the Ko'o, and the Brown Kmolia, known as the Lum'o. The Blue Kmolia are referred to as the Haam'o are very rare. A green Kmolia, also known as a Reko'o, is born about once every 300 years and is treated as royalty. Most royal bloodlines can be traced back to a green Kmolia, as they will replace their regional lords as the new monarch. A variant of Kmolia even rarer than a Reko’o does exist, but is considered to be cursed, and to bring misfortune, these are the Satus, they are ostracized from society and live enclaves on the endges of Kmolia society, that is of course, if they are not killed at birth.   Despite being dwellers of the deep, they can breathe air and can walk around on land, although this isn’t common. They normally surface in order to trade goods with other societies.
