Klal’Bauters
"Ah, the Klal'Bauter. Even just saying the name brings a smile to my face. Out of all the peoples I have met they are the only one who are not at least somewhat wary of a Chitis among them. A finer and more trustworthy people one could never meet anywhere!" Hurrog the Warrior, Tales of the Chitis
The Klal’Bauter are a water-dwelling race that populates the riverlands of the New World. Klal’Bauter are long-limbed creatures with torsos that are small for their size. Their faces resemble that of a Kobold, though their eyes face forwards and they have hair. Klal’Bauter have webbed hands and feet. Klal’Bauter have a strong boat building tradition, preferring single-person crafts to large multi member boats. Klal’Bauter are perfectly adapted for life in the riverlands- their webbed hands allow them to paddle their boats quickly and their long legs allow swift travel when wading or walking on land. The drawback of their anatomy is that their internal organs are rather small; in particular their stomachs. Klal’Bauter typically need to eat two times as many meals as a similar-weight humanoid, though the portions would be halved. They also have to go to the bathroom more often. On the rivers they call home, this is no real issue, but it has negative effects on societal development. Klal’Bauter generally form small tribal groups, though they are conscious of larger nations which generally meet in council once a year during the hottest part of the year. Klal’Bauter are very protective of those that are pregnant, this is because pregnant Klal’Bauter have trouble moving as swiftly as others. This protectiveness does extend towards other races, and the Klal’Bauter have been known to take in Chitis, which most other races are loathe to do. This trend has led to most of the free Chitis settlements being along the borders of the riverlands.
