Eriaism
Eriaism is a religion practiced by the Egrivalad. Focused on worshipping and supporting those born with great power, believed to be Heroes, followers believe that gods do not exist. Therefore, it is an atheistic religion. Eriaist heroes are usually, though not always magic-users. The history of Eriaism dates back to around 1000 BC, when the Metsamish people began to believe that their gods were either not listening, had been slain, or never existed at all. This led to much fear and religious violence between the Metsamish people, and contributed to their downfall. Two main factions survived- the Eriaists and the Auzedigists. In the absence of gods, the Auzedigists turned to those they believed to be the most powerful beings in existance- devils. In contrast, the Eriaists believed that mortals of great power should be worshipped over beings of pure evil, as they were supposedly the next most powerful beings. This contast of more power at any cost as opposed to lesser power but not bowing to evil has defined the relation between the two faiths since then.
