Boreal Trolls

Boreal trolls are the less developed of the two trollish subraces, which may be due to their poor surroundings. Most boreal trolls live entirely within isolated raiders bands, attacking settlements and fleeing with the loot whenever they hunger for food or combat. Their migratory bands rove across many of Telgren and northern Ærellion's mountain passes, falling into conflict with one another as they meet. They can also be found in isolated forests, as they once spread far and wide across the nothern woods before being exterminated over the past few thousand years. However, there are also many solitary trolls wandering about, exiles and the like, who often become even more desperate and aggressive without a clan. It is these trolls who most often must be slain by adventurers on Telgren, or who become slaves to the centaurs on Ærellion. Trolls were also kept as slaves by the giants of Khŭlmozhi at some point in the past, but eventually become too much of a handful and were slaughtered, their survivors fleeting to the nearby forests where they were eventually driven to near extinction by humans.

Thanks to the broad extermination campaigns undertaken by powerful human, elvish, giantish, and centaur states over the years, the boreal trolls' domains have shrunk far quicker than those of the equatorial trolls. On one hand, this has caused the tribes to see less conflict with one another, thanks to there simply being less trolls in each region to fight with, but on the other it means that these remaining tribes are much easier to eliminate, with entire tribes able to be wiped out in one concerted push. However, this has also encouraged the boreal trolls to look to the future and fight back, and there are a lot more instances of boreal trolls trying to reform than equatorial trolls, despite being much less developed thanks to their migratory lifestyle.
