The Ghost Worlds
The Ghost Worlds is a designation used by the Stability Council for a group of apparently abandoned realms, all of which show strong evidence of advanced civilizations which have mysteriously disappeared, leaving behind strange empty worlds containing their relics but with no sign of higher intelligence remaining.
In some cases even animal life has vanished, although in others a simplified eco-system exists with plants, small animals, birds and insects still populating the world. It is not known whether there is a single pan-dimensional cause for Ghost Worlds or whether there are multiple causes, but it is suspected they are the work of an unidentified malign Power. The Power's motive and means, if so, remain utterly obscure although naturally enough the Stability Council is extremely interested in these topics and has tried to research them on many occasions, but with little progress to date.
All Ghost Worlds are now considered to belong to the Borderlands at best. Former evolutions only possess a tenuous hold over their aborted histories and the majority are probably best thought of as archetypes, although these classifications are debated. Some Ghost Worlds are also members of the Twilight Realms.
