Resonance Crystal
Resonance Crystals are a natural material that conducts and stores energy. They come in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. They glow softly, give off warmth and heat, and vibrate slightly. Touching them yields a constant buzz of static electricity. They amplify any laser that passes through them, allowing for the creation of advanced energy weapons. They are protected by the Hunters, who use the caverns in which they grow as a habitat.
Lux used one in the creation of what she calls a Resonance Sword, an edged beam weapon that can cut through almost anything.
Utility
Resonance Crystals can be used in the creation of energy weapons. While laser and beam weapons are generally impractical due to the power constraints, Resonance Crystals amplify them enough to allow them to be used as deadly weapons.
Access & Availability
Transhumans have not figured out how to safely gather the crystals, because they are protected by deadly invisible predators. Only very small amounts of them have ever been harvested.
Complexity
Resonance Crystals are actually fairly simple - any energy wave that passes through them is amplified according to the energy level of the gem itself. Larger gems amplify energy more than smaller gems.
Discovery
Resonance Crystals were discovered by Lux and The "Scrud" on Crystal Cave. The pair were exploring with their friend Malcolm when they discovered the caves below the planet. Lux broke one off and pocketed it, and later did research to figure out the use of the crystal.
