Tillman
The Gnomish Magocracy of Tillman is located in the western portion of the Island Continent of Bellflower. They are known for their grains and magical expertise. In some ways most of the country is very rural and focused on food production. However their mages are constantly in astage of research and recovery of old artifacts and research.
Structure
The mages council elects a High Mage for the term of ten years. To qualify to be on the council, you must pass a test and be recommended to the council who votes on your eligibility. Local mages are generally involved in local politics, though many tasks are deligated to the Consuls. The Consuls then manage the guards, justice, and taxation for their assigned duties.
Culture
Buildings are often built on stilted platforms due to potential flooding in many areas. Wooden freezes are common decoration on the outside of buildings. Many times they are also built as interior dividers, though these will often have cutouts and open designs to allow airflow. This is often also coupled with decorative glass orbs which are popularly made in the region.
The Upper class prefer leather decorated with nature paterns, with pants for both men and women. Sublte greys and purples are popular.
The lower class tends to wear linen, usually fitted but asymmetrical. Vibrant color patterns with indigo and black for accents are popular.
There are two water festivals, one for the rivers and one for the seas. The spring river festival invovles the flooding of low fields for grains. Decorative rush mats are often used to cover paths that tend to get muddy in the spring rains. Some are highly elaborate and shown off at the festival.
The early fall water festival is for the ocean and sea, with Water Jousting and special festival sarongs being popular. The removal of irrigation systems to allow for the fall dry off of crops is part of this process, with the traditional attire being a tunic and loincloth for the men working the fields as they get muddy up to the thighs. Contents of strength in tossing stones and poles are popular and common. As is archery and mage blast competitions.
