Sagenut Bars

As common as Sagenut is, it is unsurprising certain myths have arisen that describe uses of the plant by heroes and mythological figures. Of these stories those involving spectacular benefits of this travel food are common, especially among Dwarves, Gnomes and Elves.

Variations & Mutation

Sagenut bars themselves come in several varieties. Sweet ones made with honey, survival /military ones that are salty and dry, or even savory ones.
While Sagenuts are not available on earth, here is an approximation of a sweet variety.

In Literature

One of the most famous stories is about the siege of the Dwarven Republic of the Granite Mountains.
During the siege, the repulic was overwhelmed by Athan the Necromancer's forces. It's people hiding in old mines and the last Stronghold of Healan City. Lord Tine the Hammer was two days away with reinforcements and Lady Tuffa's forces within the Stonghold were likely to only survive the day. Lord Tine called for a forced march only eating sagenut bars and not hot food until they reached the rear of Athan's forces. They made around the time the Stronghold was breached and collapsed the necromancer's rear guard quickly leading to disarray in the necromancer's forces. When he finally confronted Athan and crushed his scepter the siege was finally over. While the cleanup and repair to years, it was considered the turning point of the invasion.
While the bars themselves may have been eaten at the siege, it was likely just the right timing and a secretive attack on the rear flank that made the difference. However it has since been good luck by dwarven military forces to have some sagenut bars as an emergency rations.
