Great Nation of Ao

The Halfling nation of Ao works to consolidate safe territories especially from the raiding Kua-Toa empire. They currently seek to ally with other nations to form a larger confederation with the hopes to eventually invade or destroy the Kua-toa empire.

Structure

The head of the nation is the local High Priest of the Venetsir. Some of the local administrators are civic positions, and others held by the religious priests. The Military has their own structure of generals, commodores, captains, lieutenants, Sargents, and soldiers. The Military very much feels it should police the evil out of the seas and actively works to do so.

Culture

Clothing is similar regardless of rank or gender. Fitted leather jerkins and bodices with geometric patterns are common. Tans, browns and fitted leggings and skirts are common.
Architecture in cities is the same as many other places in bellflower, stone buildings with slopped tile roofs. In the country especially along the coast elevated houses in trees or on stilts are common. The storms that come frequently flood low lying areas. The elevation also helps defensively against the Kuo-Toa raids.
Flutes and pan pipes are played by many as a hobby and during downtime.
A planting festival for rice occurs in the spring with chanting rhymes and family gatherings. Fasting with tea and broth is common during this early festival. While a fall harvest festival occurs after the rice is harvested. With great feasting and sugary deserts. This harvest festival also involves pageantry, plays and singing.

Demography and Population

While the majority of the government is made up of Tarlinjin peoples of halfling and human ancestries, they only make up about two thirds of the population. A variety of others make up the remainder. The military is particularly good at finding anyone with skill to add to their numbers.

Military

The military uses the crescent moon and constellation of great fish as their primary symbol. Their uniforms are a leather armor, with occasionally a resin linen composite breastplate of pauldren. These are preferred as they often are in the water where metal is harder to use. The leather armor, and the centrality of eliminating the Kuo-Toa is part of why the general fashion of the nation involves leather, even if in a more decorative sense.
