The use of guided self-hypnosis is used in managing pain, as well as handling trauma and psychological issues. Other dreamspeakers focus on communal meditations as chant or song leaders. Singing as a form of self-hypnosis and communal worship. This is especially common among physical laborers that don't have to deal with breathing issues.

Most dreamspeakers are older, middle aged to elderly. The experience gives them a wider perspective. It is unusual for a young person, but some young diviners and priests to take up the profession early in their careers.
