Birth of the Golden Dragon

The great golden dragon named Aruthelemexiamorotal (often just called Aruthel) was born between the first and second dragon imperiums. He was instrumental in founding some resistance against the second dragon imperium. His birth was heralded by great rain storms followed by multiple rainbows on the mountains of his birth. That and the sighting of seven mystical birds at his birth including three phoenix are common tales.
One of the organizations he founded was called the Custodians of Time, the same name was used for a much later organization with a very different origin. This is not uncommon as at least three other dragons or wizards have claimed the name Aruthel for reasons of recruiting, influence, or cash.

Historical Basis

It is likely that such a dragon was born in the expected timeframe. The circumstances however are likely an exaggeration at best or completely fictitious at worst. It is known that several dragons did work to be more egalitarian and resist the dragon imperiums totalitarian regime. The fact that some of these had metallic colored scales led to the theory that good dragons were metallic in sheen and those without metallic sheen are evil.

Variations & Mutation

The apperance and later demise of the golden dragon tend to vary wildly between stories. Some have him shown as a serpentine dragon with bright gold scales and long nails. Others show the dragon as squat with batlike wings and an almost humanoid face. Even more will display the dragon with six wings on a long lizard body.
As for his demise, some say he was killed by the dragon gods. Other stories say he was killed by the early priests of the church of the earthstar, which is unlikely as the church isn't mentioned in any historical records till after the second imperium. Even more just state that he has entered dragon sleep and will one day awaken to save sentient species from sure destruction.

Cultural Reception

Many stories exisit and are often told to children as stories of hope and success against evil. A significant number of children's books, stele, and tapestries are used to depict these varios stories.
