The Godscar
The Godscar was a massive canyon in Beurum that stretched from the Icy Sea to the town of Miradel. The landmark was created when a group of gods banished the false god Akathon from the physical world in the last year of the Second Era, their immense power breaking the land in two.
Origin
In the Second Era, the god Akathon, a deity originally worshiped by tribes of Tieflings, was growing more and more popular across Beurum, with his worshipers spreading down from the Makovai Mountains and across the Western Commons. Worship of this god required the denial of all other deities, and actually strengthened Akathon himself, unlike all other known deities where worship only encouraged good fortune. Though followers of Akathon were largely peaceful, members of a group known as Twilight Star used radical methods to force other to convert. Concern about the implications of a single deity grew among many rulers and nobles, worried that a single god might bring about just one or even zero rulers of Beurum. This concern brought about ordinances that prohibited the worship of Akathon, though the reality of enforcing these laws became difficult after the King of Crastar converted to Akathism and encouraged his people to do the same. The ruling class turned to their own Gods for help. Using everything they had, they summoned some of the most powerful deities from across the world and asked that they destroy Akathon. The Gods, under the leadership of Miranee, complied. Akathon himself was destroyed by Miranee and her coalition, creating the Godscar in the process; his followers vanished without a trace. Those that were considering conversion fell ill and died. Still more died from the formation of the Godscar and the natural disasters it caused, bringing rise to a long period of unrest in Beurum.Features
The Godscar filled with seawater immediately after its creation, and the currents that were formed made seafaring there an extremely difficult task. However, the massive canyon also provided benefits to those living nearby, in that it opened up large amounts of exposed ore.
