Green Marsh

"It's abandoned, a relic of a time in Beurum history that few Trebai like to talk about." - Kunesh Hosek
Green Marsh (Deltakoi in the Kantaran language) was a Kantaran colonial town located in the Western Commons of Beurum.

History

Green Marsh was founded during the Imperial War in Beurum as a colony for Kantaran immigrants, especially farmers. Construction followed Kantaran customs, with the town centered around a large, rectangular plaza with the town hall at the end. Green Marsh quickly grew, with many newcomers finding the swampy environment to resemble their homeland. The town also served as an important strategic center for Kantaran rulers, with many attacks ordered on surrounding towns, including Brooder's Crossing.   After the Imperial War, Kantaran leaders largely returned to their homeland, leaving the populaces of their settlements to fend for themselves. A large portion of Green Marsh's population also returned to Tritan, leaving behind a grievously underpopulated settlement. As a result, the town's elected council was replaced with a series of kings before its absorption into the province of Freevern. By the year 7100, the town was a ruin, all of its residents having moved elsewhere.   In 8082, a group of adventurers, at Lord Mallan Wolfram's direction, rescued his fiance, Alda of Rovna, from the ruin. A green dragon had taken up residence in the old town center, having killed the bandits that captured her.

Geography

The town was located in a marshy, swampy area of the Western Commons along the River Victory, hence its name. Originally the harsh terrain provided an opportunity for Kantaran leaders to promote a "conquest-of-nature" centered narrative, but maintaining the town's infrastructure became virtually impossible after the Imperial War.
