Duchy of Daundry

The Duchy of Daundry was once a key province of the Burbric Empire, controlling trade and military movement across Lake Ryrmon. Its castles and keeps lined the shores, guarding the empire’s hold over the region. Across the lake stood Mirrouse, the imperial capital, making Daundry a crucial stronghold. To the south, the Domart Mountains and Raemar’s Fingers formed a natural border, with valleys that once belonged to Daundry and the empire. That changed when the dwarves of Domari came down from their mountains, taking first the valleys, then Sorlond to the east, and eventually Daundry itself.   For centuries, Daundry was a stable and fortified region. It was among the first territories annexed by the Burbric Empire, meant to secure complete control over Lake Ryrmon. Its castles were built to repel foreign incursions, but Daundry rarely faced external threats. The duchy prospered under imperial rule. The towns along the lakeshore flourished, serving as vital hubs for goods moving between Mirrouse, Daundry Keep, and the inland provinces. But the peaceful years of Daundry ended when something changes in the mountains to the south.   At first, the empire did not see them as a threat, but the dwarves were patient. After securing the valleys, they pushed further, taking The Duchy of Sorlond to the east, and then turning their eyes toward Daundry. By the time the Burbric lords realized what was happening, it was too late. The dwarves’ conquest was swift. They overwhelmed the castles and forced the Duke of Daundry to flee across the lake to Vassart, and later to Mirrouse, where he now lives in exile. Though he speaks of reclaiming his lands, he lacks the forces to challenge the dwarves. Meanwhile, Domari rule is firmly in place. Dwarves have settled in Daundry’s towns and cities, taking over former Burbric estates and fortifying key locations. Human resistance is scattered, and many have fled to Burbric lands still under imperial rule.   No one knows why the dwarves abandoned their mountain halls. Rumors say they uncovered something deep beneath the earth, forcing them to flee. Whether true or not, they show no signs of returning home. They now claim Daundry as their own, securing its castles, expanding its mines, and reshaping the towns to fit their needs.   Daundry’s climate is mild due to Lake Ryrmon, though the land grows rougher and drier further inland, especially near the Aganaan Desert. Its fertile lakeshore was once filled with vineyards and trade roads, but under dwarven rule, much of the land has been repurposed for their own industries. The southern forests and the valleys of Raemar’s Fingers remain contested, with small human groups resisting the occupation.   For now, Daundry is a conquered land, its people caught between two worlds. Some have accepted dwarven rule, while others quietly wait for an opportunity to rise. The Burbric Empire still claims the land as its own, and if the duke ever regains enough support, the region could once again become a battleground. Until then, the dwarves are here to stay.
