Eldritch Beasts, Monsters of Dreams and Whispers

"Most assume that all that is left of the cosmos primal and ancient beings are the Fae Courts and Demonic Hordes. Their war like a dance through the universe. Some have speculated that there very well may be... Others out there. Older things that might even spell doom for Fae and Demon. Perhaps as some sort of cosmic work of balance. Perhaps as yet another run of horror and power. But some spellcasters, those that can traverse the Whisper have spoken of seeing things. Things that are difficult to explain. This is why you must not stay too long or too frequently within the Whisper. You might glimpse them and that might be your undoing. Or worse, they might see you." - Elder Ofaris Pen, Wiz.
The signifigence of these beings in the cosmos is currently unknown or perhaps unknowable.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Amorphous and barely comprehensible, glimpsed only in the peripheral senses of unlucky spellcasters as they pass through the Whisper.

Growth Rate & Stages

The Eldritch Beasts have among them beings so old that they might bride the birth and death of the universe. As long as they can consume others of their kind before they are themselves consumed, they might very well be immortal.

Dietary Needs and Habits

While sustenance like food and water as mortals understand it do not seem to be a concern of the Beasts, they will occasionally devour smaller and younger Beasts. This cannibalism seems to bring them increased power and strength. The oldest and most powerful are incomprehensible in size, presumably becoming as alien to the younger members of their own kind as they are to mortals. The Whisper is vast, and their numbers are not so many that they might frequently encounter eachother, but this seeming desire for strength or power makes them extremely solitary beyond their early years.

Behaviour

As the Eldritch Beasts have no predators or predated races beyond themselves, occasionally a younger member of the species will attempt to pass into the mortal realms. They cannot exist as themselves in the mortal world, so they must take the body of a mortal as a "host". This means it is very possible that some assumed demonic posessions have actually had nothing to do with the Demonic Hordes at all, but this cannot, nor will likely ever be confirmed. Unlike demons, who prey on weaknesses, the Eldritch are attracted to power and will seak out the most powerful mortal. They will lie within the host body, growing in power, until the host can no longer contain them and they will either move on to a stronger host or return to the Whisper. Presumably now with the strength to possibly survive an encounter with their own kind.
