Common Ancestries

in 5e Player's Handbook

These playable species are commonly found throughout the isles and make up the bulk of the population.

Frost Dwarf

The dwarves of the frozen Skaldik Kingdoms are as passionate about the glory of battle as they are about crafting fine implements of war.

Hill Dwarf

The industrious dwarves of Cantara will always strive for perfection with joyful and ferocious zeal, no matter what trade they find themselves in.

Dark Elf (Drow)

This race of elves come from refugees touched with shadow magic, and have made new homes in the Montipalan Islands and the darker reaches of the isles.

High Elf (Sea Elf)

The seafairing elves of the Montipalan Islands have a reputation for being swaggering, rakish, and unparalleled sailors.

Wood Elf

These elves have a deep connection to their ancient roots and live in secluded wilderness communes.

Half-Elf

Being the melting pot that Cantara is, it is often not obvious if someone is purely human, elven, or anywhere in between.

Lightfoot Halfling

Lightfoots are prone to wanderlust and while they are particularily sociable, they also have a knack for not attracting attention.

Sharpwit Halfling

Sharpwits are especially curious and quickthinking halflings who thrive on haphazard innovation and often struggle to keep their mouths shut.

Stout Halfling

Stout halflings are usually quite happy making a comfortable living in the quiet countryside, but are particularily tenacious when driven to great deeds.

Montipalan Human

The humans of the jungled northern islands have adapted much of the culture and attitudes of their elven neighbors.

Skaldik Human

The tall, resiliant southerners have made the perpetual clashes between their kingdoms into a passtime.

Thelan Human

The largest demographic in Cantara are the Thelan's, the restless and ambitious people who live in the great cities in the central isles.

Half-Orc

Caught between two worlds, half-orcs often struggle to find a place in either and end up forging their own path.

Orc

The proud, nomadic orcs have nations across the isles and a long history of both conquoring and being conquored by others.
