Grayshield Hall
The rest on the western edge of the city, in the shade of the city wall.
Purpose / Function
The hall started its life as a storehouse. It was first converted to an inn and now serves as the headquarter for a small adventuring guild.
Alterations
The building was originally a weapons storehouse for the Blanchin forces. When the storehouse was used for the market, they extended it by adding two extra floors and a cellar. Once it became an inn, they created a purpose-built kitchen at the opposite end of the main entrance and replace the original wood flooring on the main floor with a stone one. The inn retained the original wooden frame for three years before a fire nearly saw the building destroyed altogether. As that point, the owner decided to remodel the building further, giving it stone walls and a tiled roof though he kept the wooden floorings on the first and second floors.
The Graygarde guild has only taken over the building in the last 6 months or so and has not made further alterations at this time.
Architecture
The exterior walls are made of dark grey basalt stone that was plastered over and then painted a creamy white. The roof is made of red shingles. The entire framework of the building is made of steelwood, with the rest of the features - such as window frames, floorings and staircases - being made of dark oak. On the ground floor, all windows have thick, dark oak shutters.
History
The building started its life as an unnamed storehouse for the Blanchin garrison protecting the city. Following the dynasty's retreat, the storehouse was used for the nearby West Market. As Artisans' Watch developed, the West Market became less and less of an attraction. The building was eventually bought and became an inn called The Tipsy Unicorn. After the inn closed following the death of the previous owner, the building laid empty for a few years and was unofficially used by the Forsaken Roses as a hideout.
