Broken Isles
Summary
Shattered remnants of the ancient night elven civilization, the Broken Isles rose from obscurity after the events of the Third Invasion of the Burning Legion. Rich in arcane power, druidic tradition, and titan secrets, the isles are a fractured reflection of ancient Azeroth—where every island holds a piece of lost history, and the scars of the Legion remain ever-present.
Notable Regions:
- Azsuna – A once-beautiful elven province, now haunted by ghosts of the past and besieged by naga and Withered. Home to the Azurewing Repose and Ley-Ruins of Zarkhenar.
- Val’sharah – The cradle of druidism in Azeroth, where the Emerald Dream touches the mortal world. It is a sacred, yet corrupted, woodland steeped in the legacy of Cenarius and the Nightmare.
- Highmountain – Towering peaks and rugged cliffs inhabited by the Highmountain tauren, drogbar, and skyhorn tribes. Deep traditions and elemental reverence define this mountainous land.
- Stormheim – A windswept region inspired by vrykul and titan themes. Odin’s Halls of Valor lie here, alongside the Helarjar’s cursed influence from Helheim.
- Suramar – A magnificent, arcane-infused city and its surrounding region, long sealed off from the world. Home to the nightborne, the Nighthold, and key to unraveling the Legion’s plots.
- The Broken Shore – The staging ground of the Legion’s final assault. Ruined, bleak, and filled with fel corruption. Home to the Tomb of Sargeras and the war’s final push.
Major Cities:
- Dalaran (relocated) – During the Legion invasion, the floating city of Dalaran was moved to hover above the Broken Isles, serving as a neutral faction hub and base for the Class Orders. (Note: Destroyed during The War Within and no longer present in this region.)
- Suramar City – A massive nightborne city hidden for millennia behind an arcane barrier. Once a beacon of elven civilization, now freed from the Legion’s grip and cautiously rejoining the world.
- Thunder Totem – The unifying capital of the Highmountain tribes, built around a towering mesa and symbol of tauren resilience and community.
- Skyhold – A titan-forged realm above Stormheim, accessible to warriors and vrykul alike. It is a place of glory and challenge in Odin’s service.
Factions:
- The Nightfallen – Former nightborne exiles who rebelled against Elisande’s Legion-aligned regime. Withered and unstable, they seek redemption and restoration.
- Highmountain Tauren – A proud and spiritual people with ties to the Earthmother. Later rejoin the Horde after Legion’s defeat.
- The Valarjar – Vrykul champions who serve Odin and uphold ancient titan ideals from Skyhold.
- The Wardens – Elite night elven jailors led by Maiev Shadowsong, dedicated to containing ancient threats, especially Gul’dan’s schemes and Illidan’s fate.
- The Dreamweavers – Druids and dryads of Val’sharah who protect the Dream’s influence and resist the Nightmare.
- The Court of Farondis – Ghostly night elves from Azsuna who aid the living to reclaim their homeland.
- The Illidari – Demon hunters trained by Illidan Stormrage, key to the war against the Legion. Their base of operations lies within the Fel Hammer.
