Dragons

Dragons are constructs originally created to be host vessels for gods who didn't already have a material form, but were given artificial souls and brought to life by the Dragon Queen to conquer the Mortal Realm.

Biology

Appearance

Dragons were designed to resemble a giant reptilian. Their scales are made of a rare material of an unknown origin simply called scale, any mortal item constructed of scale is guaranteed to be harvested from a dragon. Wings were given to the vessel for increased movement without expending divine power and are even tougher than the body to make up for their thin, and otherwise fragile design.

Breath Weapon

Gods emmit constant power, much of which is wasted, hence the creation of a sack (called a breath sack) in the vessel's throat to absorb the access power to be used in violent outbursts when summoned. Though no divine has ever occupied a dragon's body (excluding the Dragon Queen) these sacs are still in good use absorbing the artificial soul's excess power instead and unleashing it as a blast of the element.

Damaging the Vessel

The artificial soul is highly unstable and requires the vessel to be 100% intact to be fully functional. Damage to the vessel will cause the soul to become violent and will result in the vessel violently lashing out and losing any form of higher intelligence it had. If the vessel becomes too unstable to contain the soul, the instability will cause it to fall apart into an elemental explosion. If fast enough some creatures may be able to absorb the soul's power and reduce to blast into a gentle breeze, resulting in the absorber gaining draconic power. There has only been a single recorded case of a soul being transferred into a new vessel without it breaking apart. This was done by the people of Aekminur who turned it into a mass heating system for their city and later into a teleportation system capable of safely sending the city to areas hundreds of miles away.

Reproduction

While being constructed, the dragons were secretly given an asexual reproduction system. The dragon would gather several materials to mold an egg with and then regurgitate the elemental essence from their breath sack into it. The last step of constructing the egg is a rather dangerous one and is the reason not many dragons reproduce. Because the sack's major function is absorbing access energy from the soul, regurgitating too much essence may cause the sack to try and obtain more, causing the soul to become more unstable and explode. Once the egg's construction is completed, it must be kept under extreme conditions (highly cold or hot areas) for a year which will contribute to the colors and breath weapon of the dragon.

Types

Chromatic

These dragons are sorted by the color of their scales (red, blue, white, etc) and are the original vessels that tried to invade the Mortal Realm alongside the Dragon Queen. Their reign and further conquering outside of Vuruesis was put to stop by the Knights of the Round Table who killed a few high-ranking members of their draconic union and imprisoned the rest of them in underground vaults.

Metalic

Some ill-advised individuals found a *dragon graveyard with artificial souls that created new vessels as ghosts. Using different varieties of metal, they created new material vessels for the artificial souls to be **contained in and essentially brought them back to life. These dragons did not remember their past lives or retain any personality they once had, creating the first generation of good-aligned dragons. They are few in numbers and are scattered throughout the mortal realm, guarding it against future other-planar threats as a means to make up for what their predecessors had done.

Gem Dragons

To face the challenge that was an army of dragons, the Knights of the Round Table had to match in power. Using the Holy Grail, Merlin had altered the highest and most trusted members of the table's biology changing them into the first Gem Dragons.
Notes: *This area was created by a skirmish between dragons. The reasons why the skirmish took place are unknown.   **This is not considered to be successfully containing the soul in a new vessel since the metallic dragon bodies were created partially using dragon corpses.
