Avariel - The Winged Ones
The Avariel, "winged folk" in Elven, are believed to be the second oldest of the Elder races and are the original Elvish race. They lived on the plains across the continent but were nearly lead to extinction after an ancient conflict against an army of Dark Ones, lead by the son of the Archfiend Zel'goth, the first Daemon known as Zedes. The Avariel now inhabit temples and villages in various mountain ranges across the Ancestor Isles, keeping themselves isolated from the rest of society. Because of this, they have since been believed by many to be that of Elvish myth and legends.
Society, Culture & Religion
In ancient society, the Avariel were split into two groups, the Warlike and the Monk Nomads. However, after their near extinction, their society has shifted and all uphold the virtues, practices and traditions of both groups. This means their society is now a society of Warrior Monks who travel between their temples found deep in multiple mountain ranges and islands across the world.
Their patron deity is Zephyr, the God of air, sea and earth. Statues of a giant griffin in mid-flight dedicated to Zephyr can be seen overlooking the entrances to their temples. Zephyr is held above all other deities as he is considered to be the one that saved them from extinction and had a direct hand in their creation.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Avariel have smooth, pale skin, but not as pale as pure white or snow. Their hair is usually white, black or a very light, whitish blue. An Avariel's feathered wings are usually similar in color to their hair, with some exceptions. Like their non-Elder cousins, the Elves, the Avariel have pointed ears. They are often considered beautiful due to their close connection to the Aethereal Lords.
Biological Cycle
The average natural lifespan of an Avariel is of around 300 to 350 years, with the oldest of their kind growing as old as 400 to 425 years.
