History
Trogs' initial uplift was conducted for military purposes in the lead-up to the First Terran Empire's final war to unify Earth. Specifically, they were an answer by the Central African Coalition Forces to make up for their lagging cloning technology (by this time, most other countries had either bolstered their forces with 'Exemplar' model clones or had replaced natural born soldiery entirely). By uplifting Chimpanzees, they could vat-produce more soldiers faster without the instability of rushing through the cloning process for Exemplars. These genetically engineered soldiers were a mixed bag, but they proved resilient against the Gobi forces' viral warfare as their genetic sampling was from a much wider base than the over-engineered Exemplars. When the CACF surrendered, the trog troopers were supposed to be rounded up and destroyed but a majority of them were smart and vicious enough to escape into wild chimp populations, where their uplift proved to breed true. They were a thorn in the First Terran Empire's side through most of their existence, and were recognized by the Great Timocracy as full citizens. Ever since then, they are a minority found in much of human space, with isolated enclaves of Trog-majority settlements peppered around. They favor combative roles but also handle boredom well, which makes them well suited for security and guard duty. They tend to be blunter instruments than humans, which means that command roles are rare.
