Neo-Monastics of Earth Prime

"The Neo-Monastics seek wisdom, yes—but they mistake austerity for holiness and madness for mystery. We grant them the Protection of the faithful, but not the shelter of impunity. When they stack skulls in the name of silence, the Way will answer with fire and judgment."
— Pope Bernadette IX, Seekers of Wisdom

Relics Without Gods

The Neo-Monastics of Earth Prime (NMEP) are a curious contradiction: a spiritual cult devoid of divinity. Founded in the Late Pre-Imperial Era in the ruins of coastal Europe, they emerged as an esoteric offshoot of the Seekers of Wisdom. NMEP dogma rejects personal gods but embraces the trappings of religion—ritual, scripture, sacred space, and discipline—as instruments for reshaping the soul. Their composite monasteries are testaments to this worldview: architectural fusions of Shinto, Buddhist, Abrahamic, and tribal religious sites, built in stone and bioconcrete with an obsessive attention to ancient design. While hauntingly beautiful, their cathedrals are also eerie, their halls echoing with chants in dead tongues and lit by candles sculpted in human fat.

Discipline into Depravity

At their core, the Neo-Monastics believe that suffering unlocks enlightenment. This starts with strict vows: silence, chastity, fasting, labor. But over time, as inner circles form and zeal hardens into fanaticism, many monasteries spiral into macabre extremism. Public records document instances of razorwire scourging, chemical purgations, "carnal confession" rites, and sacred cannibalism—all presented as methods to confront the basest human truths. Though not every monastery degenerates, the sheer number of reported abuses has made NMEP communities deeply distrusted across Human Space. These violations persist partly due to the protections religious groups receive under Pan-Solar Consortium law. The human rights protocols following the Cozine Disaster were intentionally loose with spiritual autonomy, and NMEP expertly navigates those boundaries—until they step too far.

Guardians and Reckonings

When that line is crossed, the responsibility does not fall to secular authorities, but to the Seekers of Wisdom themselves. As the NMEP remains nominally under their doctrinal umbrella, internal justice is delegated to the Guardians of the Way under the terms of Harmony and Detente, the militant arm of the Seekers' ecclesiarchy. These warrior-ascetics wield archaic and modern weaponry alike, descending upon corrupted temples with holy fire and tactical precision. Officially, their goal is reclamation of the faithful—but in practice, it often results in destruction. Inquisitorial raids are announced with drones broadcasting scripture, and executions are framed as "liberations of the spirit." Despite the drama, the state looks the other way, relieved to outsource the bloody work. Pope Bernadette IX walks a narrow line, defending the spiritual rights of the faithful while condemning excesses—careful not to crack the foundation of a faith that has endured for centuries.
