The Age of Calamitous is a grounded dark fantasy world where myth and magic linger in the shadows of a harsh reality. Drawing inspiration from real-world history and culture, most regions follow a medieval way of life, with feudal villages and towns, while wealthier kingdoms have entered a more refined era marked by grand architecture and organized militaries. Set in the year 1724, the world has a blend of historical influences without modern technology. There are no firearms or machinery, aside from ship-mounted cannons, so warfare remains rooted in swords, bows, and siege weaponry. Magic and mythical beings do exist, but are rare and unknown to most. With mythical creatures hiding from humans, most people live their lives without ever seeing or experiencing anything related to magic or the ancient mythos of the old world.
