The Eastern Glades

Characterized by its sloping, gentle hills and fertile soil, the eastern glades are a massive series of interconnected grasslands east of the ridge. Its vast size and temperate climate made it a perfect settling place for a vast amount of species and cultures, making it a diverse wonder.

Geography

With such a large plot of land, there are all sorts of various geographic regions contained in it. From forests, to rivers, to a great lake on the border, everthing from the Crystal lake to the eastern aithaithan coast is considered The Eastern Glades.

Grasslands

Much to no surprise, The Eastern Glades are mainly comprised of various, overlapping grasslands. Most are cultivated and thouroughly tended too, so their natural state
Pangella
has been slowly chipped away at over the decades, but they still retain some of their initial personality.

Grasswell Brush

The Grasswell is a slightly slopping bowl. The soil is spongy near the bottom of the Glade and it floods regularly in the Spring and Fall, or whenever the rains kick up. Over time, the dip has been carved into small platues about a step high each, perfect for controlled flooding. The plants that naturally grow there grow tall and thick with long, spongy roots to soak up all the water just beneath the soil and hold everything in place. Farmers have been careful over the years to maintain a healthy amount of natural, long lasting grasses to maintain the earth after one particularly bad flood.

Trillium Glade

The Trillium Glade gets it's name due to it's interesting, 3 pronged shape. It's corralled by
multiple forests, a mountain range, and costline. Unlike the Grasswell, the Triluim glade has several small, gentle slopes all throughout it. The soil is rich and fertile and it supports a vast array of crops and natural ecosystems making the Trillium Glade the host for hundreds of insects, plants, and other types of living creatures.

Top of Sidhaor

While the smallest plot of land, Sidhaor is, by far, the most fertile. Crops, once planted, seem to spring out of the ground twice the size and double the prjected yeild. sure, famers are still needed to tend to the crops, but with soil like this its almost like cheating.   The uncultivated land is just as striking, with thick, tall grasses and so many fast growing and resiliant wild-flowers that they paint the countryside beautiful colors during sping and sometimes summer.

Various Forests

Ironically, the Eastern glades have several forests included. They are temperate forests, with leafy trees and wide trunks, perfect for logging and cultivating all sorts of plants that thrive in the shade.

Chammere Forest

This is the largest of the forests on the Eastern Glades. It's Primarily used for logging while the others are shade providing refuges. There are a vast amount of trees, all laid out in pleasing grids and organized well after years of logging and maintainence. They are leafy and pretty, with wide branches and a thick fully develped strata, complete with a canopy, understory, and brush.

Shihd Forest

The Shihd Forest grows at the base of Sidhaor. Almost like a tree skirt, a small yet lush forest flares along the bottom of the penisula. The trees are typically broad-leafed and colorful, and become a beautiful show of bronze, orange, and brown in the fall. The forest itself houses many game animals, and, through careful and judicious lumbering, the building blocks of many buildings in the area and the mulch over gardens when those buildings fall and rot.

Johetza Skirts

Unlike the Johetza swamp, the Swamp skirts, often just shortened to Skirts, isn't populated by Johetza trees. Thankfully. Instead, the trees are closely packed and thick trunked. Willows, Ashs, and Red Maples dominate this forest, cusioning the swamp border and soaking up all the excess water to keep the swamp from spreading.

Forbidden Forest

This is a controversial addition. Ask any resisident of the eastern glades not in the forbidden forest if it is part of them and they will laugh and shake their head and absolute no. Ask any Forbidden Forest dweller and they'll laugh and give an absolute yes and probably leave thinking you are somehow uneducated even though you are holding a notepad and several encyclopedias strapped to your person. It's a strange phenomenon. The reasoning seems to be that the eastern glades have three other forests, so why shouldn't the Forbidden forest be apart of the Eastern Glades too. The response is typically that it's the Forbidden Forest, why would you want it apart of the Glades?

2 Boardering Mountain Ranges

Rock Spit

These mountains are small and protrude out of the top. They are tiny things, dregs from the (melting points) mountain range. They, honestly, can barely be considered mountains with the shallow vallies and gentle slope. The sides are coated in soil and moss, almost covering the whole thing other than the last couple feet of stone.

Shvauntekp Mountains

The Shvanúntekp Mountains are small things that just barely jut up on the bottom edge of Sidhaor and reach over into the Glades proper. They do a half-good job of blocking the wind from the south. Half in the sence that they stop it from going north a breakneck speed, but then they send it east where it rushes across the glades at half break-neck speeds. There don't seem to be many precious ores in the mountains.

4 Main rivers and a Lake

The Glittering Snake

The Snake is the longest, largest river on the Eastern glades, with barely any of shoots or other feeds. It flows almost directly from the Crystal Lake to the Aithaitha, winding dreamily across the Glades. It cuts through the Chammere and boarders the Grasswell before depositing gracefully on the northeastern coastling. The waters run fast and cold. Right up until the Grasswell, the river possesses the same qualities as the crystal lake, turning the river bed and banks a hard, glittering rock. Fortuneatly, drinking the water as a onceoff doesn't seem to do much, but there does seem to be some affect after prolonged exposure.

Emerald Run

A slow fat river flowing lazily north from several prominent natural springs. The river has a an iconic green tinge to the water, more from it's limestone and magnesium bed. The Water is generally cool and clean, despite it's color, and is used as the primary clean water source for the surounding area. Through a series of damns and structure, at key points the river can be closed off to controle flood the chammere, effectivly jumpstarting some sapling incemination and killing hurtful ground plants.

Innislam River

The Innislam flows from the Shvanuatep mountains. Its not particularly notable other than the fact that its widespread and deep. the waters are consistantly used to water feilds in the area, as well as fueling rutimentary internal plumbing. The river is deep enough that some small ships can work their way inland to a couple key cities for produce shipments and trade.

Ecklow Canal

If the Forbidden Forest is not included in the Eastern Glades, the Ecklow Canal is used as the border marker. It runs from the johetza swamp to the aithiatha and runs as murky as you would expect it too. In many ways, the water is considered toxic, moving at just the right pace to cary the dirt from the bed without letting it settle, but not frothing with rapids either. It is large enough for ships to sail up and down it and is consistantly used by Rashans and Roans to get to the ocean.

Crystal Lake

In truth, the Glades only border the Crystal Lake, but it's a good marker for it's western border. The Lake is very thouroughly it's own entity, but it does have some effects on the Glade. The border is definitly decorated in crystal, and the trees and creatures that interact with the waters glitter in the sunlight. Those with more interaction begin to take on a translucent quality, much like the Creatures native to the lake its self.

Flora and Fauna

Flora

Aya Weed

Aya Weed is a long, tall, yellow tinged grass that grows on the barriar between crop fields. It's incredibly common, and to the local herbivors, it's considered a great staple in most meals, much like lettus or spinach. Aya Weed is grown naturally and can be used as a barriar between crop types and property lines when cultivated and allowed to grow to it's full height.

Jaxirxar

Commonly known as the Body Eater, Jaxirxar is a specific kind of fungus that specifically breaks down and eats dead bodies. It doesn't seem to discriminate between sapient creatures or other animals, though it does prefer warm, organic matter. Jazirzar is used in most funeral preparations and butcher houses to help the decomposing process along gently and naturally. Many think there is something poetic about nature reclaiming what was once theirs and making use of it even in death.

Fauna

Bluther Bull

A Bluther Bull is a tough animal originally native to the mase of mountains. They are shaggy, 4 leagged beasts with low hanging heads and thick skin perfect for deflecting falling rocks and/or the skys terrible onslaught durring the transition months. They are generally minld tempered, only getting agressive when they or their herd is threatened. Among other things, the Bluther's Hide is incredibly durible and warm once made into a leather.

Wel Shu Rabbit

A Wel Shu Rabbit is a particularly stupid creature. larger than normal rabbits, Wel Shu rabbits tend to live in colder climates, though they love to migrate with the seasons. They love the light, which makes catching one very easy, and their pelts are soft and piable-perfect for hats. Not only that, but their meat is hardy and longlasting.

Cultures, Peoples, and the Like

Apsaloosa

A large farming country that dominates most of the planes. They tend to be simple, hard working people with a strong distaste for laziness, magic, and cheats. While not particularly artistic, or technologically adapet, Apsaloosians are good at most trades that require patience and dicipline.

Kesia

Filled with Honest, hardworking, quiet people, Kesia is one of the smaller Eastern nations. After splitting off from Apsaloosa, Kesia turned more towards logging as it's main industy and farming took a backseat.

Thanta

Being the newest nation on the eastern glades, they have yet to truely make a reputation for themselves. Liek their neighbors, thantese are generally quiet, hardworking people, but the thantese have an exceptional connection to the land that is cultivated in most of what they do.

Roan

Unlike their neighbors, Roan looked at all the hardwork needed to live and decided it wasn't really for them. They prefer to play, have fun, and find the easiest way out. Culturally, they are very similar to western behviors with eastern ideals. While still being wary of magic, Roanians tend to be charming, charismatic, and sneaky.
