Cockatrice
Cockatrices first came to be when a foolish priest of Koraka sought to fuse avian and Wyvern genetics. The result was a brood of mid-sized, half-draconic monstrosities that killed the priest and quickly spread across Tesia.
Their anatomy is very similar to that of a wyvern, though more stretched and gaunt. Instead of a clean layer of scales, their bodies are littered with a strange mix of both feathers and scales. Their heads extend out on a goose-like neck, but resemble withered chicken heads. The impressive front wing-appendages of wyverns are bony on cockatrices, with ineffective, loose, fleshy wing material hanging off them.
Due to the changes in their front limbs, cockatrices cannot fly. They are, however, much faster than wyverns on the ground, and much more capable of using their front limbs as hands. Their primary method of attack is the astonishing ability to petrify targets with their bites. Inside their large beaks, cockatrice possess a set of four small fangs that inject a toxin into their targets. This toxin rapidly ossifies outer the layers of their target's flesh. Once a target has been petrified, the cockatrice breaks open the stony shell and eats any remaining unpetrified contents. Due to this unorthodox hunting method, cockatrices prefer to prey on large targets, as comparatively less of the whole creature becomes petrified.
