Mithyral Dragons
These rare dragons are one of two Metal Dragons species that are not native to Terrestrisan.
Basic Information
Anatomy
They have a very angular head, eight legs and a long tail that is usually twice the length of the body. They have multiple glands that give them the ability to coat their bodies in electricity and project it out of their mouths.
Genetics and Reproduction
Females lay a clutch of eggs(1 to 5 eggs that take from 40 to 60 years to hatch) once every 50 to 100 years.
Growth Rate & Stages
Up until the age of 50 years old they are considered Hatchlings. From 51 to 200 years they are Juvenile. From 201 to 1000 years of age they are Adults. From a 1000 years onward they are considered to be Ancient dragons.
Ecology and Habitats
When there is a lack of meat or mithyral in the area they will go into a state of Torpor for potentially Centuries and eat what they have horded until low and tunnel to find more.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Mithyral Dragons will eat meat, mithyral, and occasionally cave moss and cave mushrooms. They will use their speed to catch things smaller than them, if they can't catch them they will use their electricity to stun them. Adults and older tend to horde mithyral for food.
Behaviour
Hatchlings generally use their speed at this age to avoid conflict, but if backed into a corner they have the ability to generate electricity over their body and project a small current from their mouths. Juveniles will usually use their speed to get up close to hit enemies with their electrical coated tail and bite. Adults will usually open up fights with projecting electricity from their mouth, which at this point is a strong enough current to jump between targets, then use their speed to attack the stunned targets. Ancient Dragons will usually open with their eletrical blast, then get up close and hit with their electric coating which at this point will jump off their body out to 30ft(9.14m) including their tail attack.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Mithyral Dragons tend to go off of the strongest which generally means the oldest in the area is the leader. Most times though they will try to avoid each other unless a Female is looking to be courted.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
The Mithyral Dragons of Star Mount and the Blackstone Peaks have deals with their respective denizens (Mithril Born Dwarves of Star Mount and the Mountain Gnomes of the Blackstone Peaks) to find and procure Mithril in exchange for protection and sometimes housing.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Most examples of this species came to Terrestrisan on the Meteor now known as Star Mount, although it is thought that some meteors landed in the Blackstone Peaks with some Mithyral Dragons inside. Also some of the species were coerced to the mountain range known as Wyrm's Watch to be researched by a mysterious ancient wizard named Maldrek.
Average Intelligence
As Hatchlings they tend to be fairly intelligent, but once they get to Juveniles the males will tend to be reckless and seemingly looking for danger. Once they hit Adulthood they calm, until courting starts during which they tend to seemingly revert back to a Juvenile intelligence. While Ancients still participate in courting they do not become Juvenile in intelligence.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They have the abilty to see in the dark. Adult and older have the ability to sense the electrical interference of creatures nervous system, the older they get the more sensitive they get to this.
Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
There is a Species of Dragon Mite named Mithril Dragon Mites that have evolved to parasitize the Mithril Dragons.
Civilization and Culture
Beauty Ideals
Females of the species tend to look for the shiniest of scales on the males of the species because that means they have access to the most Mithyral.
Courtship Ideals
When females of the species show they wish to be courted the males will bring a gift of food, consisting of meat, mithyral, and whatever moss and mushrooms they can find. After bringing their offering if the female deems it worthy the males will fight for dominance and to impress the female.
Relationship Ideals
The males of the species tend to stay around until the eggs hatch to make sure no scavengers or potentional other males seek to eat or destroy the eggs.
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Mithyral Dragons have their own dialect of Dracish(Drak-ish).
History
The Mithyral Dragons were brought to the world of Terrestrisan on meteors, that were from their exploded home world(The name of which has been lost to time).
Lifespan
It is currently unknown how old they can get, but few make to the title of Ancient. They die usually from lack of food or being hunted. The oldest known is approximately 4000 years of age(It is unknown for sure because their home world had longer years).
