Riverfall
A small, quiet farming community at the base of The Amandor Falls, Riverfall is the idyllic elven setting for peace, harmony and tranquility. With a trade road that travels through the village, Riverfall sees its fair share of passersby, as well as those that have come to partake in the jadewood trade.
Demographics
Riverfall, located on the northwest fringe of The Jade Forest, lies squarely in an area inhabited almost primarly by elves. Being as it bears a main trade road through its humble and quaint village, it does receive its fair share of travelers, and it is not uncommon to see visitors and other species pass through. The village is 93% elven, while the remaining 6% is half elves, with a 1% population share held by a few humans, tieflings, halflings, and gnomes.
Government
Gerontocracy under the observed rule of the organized Lothlondian monarchy. Riverfall, like many other elven settlements, adheres to the tradition of bestowing its leadership roles to elders and wisemen, the two usually going hand in hand. This dynamic does not interfere with the newly formed monarchy, as Riverfall (which falls under the larger purview of Eifrandel), provides its goods and services in support of the whole country and it's king.
Industry & Trade
While not a large player in any of the import/export markets in Lothlonde, Riverfall is a natural stopping point for travelers. It has a relatively busy general goods store, and the local bowyers stay fairly busy with the production and sale of their products, as a result of the overabundance of jadewood in the surrounding forests.
Infrastructure
The infrastructure is decidedly simple, with several simple watermills supplied by the Amandor Falls, as well as a primary farming complex with a windmill and stables. The roads in Riverfall are cobblestone, and a few small footbridges span the flowing stream that spans the length of the village. A single, main trade road runs north to south on the west side of the stream, while a quieter footpath mosies and winds up the east side.
Districts
The village is small enough that it is not broken into any districts. The focal point is the cleverly-constructed and centrally located Glimmering Bow Inn & Taphouse. The taphouse, which sits on the east side of the stream, is built with its A-frame building shape right into a mighty and massive Elder Oak tree. Quaint elven homes sprawl randomly behind the inn into the forest, high and low with the usual elven ingenuity you would expect.
History
Riverfall has had a history unmarred by major catastrophe. Far enough away from the events of The Void War, as well as other regional struggles that transacted in the north, it is a settlement free of any major military conflict. The biggest threat to the village has been several scares with ecological threats, specifically the invasive species Gwentrobennis Aret, more commonly called The Chewing Pest. Evolved variations of this fingernail sized flying nuisance have plagued sectors of The Jade Forest for a thousand years, and over time has even become immune to certain kinds of magic. This flying bug chews incessantly at the valued jade wood at breakneck speeds, and has reflexes that make catching and attempting to eliminate them nearly impossible. It took almost thirty years for the brightest minds to develop a highly effective elf-safe toxin that is still used on jade wood, crops, vegetation, and even on people's homes during aggressive breeding seasons.
Points of interest
Riverfall is noteworthy for several things, both manmade, and natural. The Glimmering Bow Inn & Taphouse is the premier eatery and lodging establishment, with the two buildings sitting mere yards apart from each other across the stream. A magical footbridge of circular stone pavers rises from the creek bed when it rains and the waters rise, allowing passage to the other side. Drunken patrons walking across the stream to their rooms at the inn famously slip and fall in the stream as a result of slippery walking stones. This has happened so many times that the elves in Riverfall constructed a magical "net" to catch any who might lose their footing. Comically, you might see people presumably suspended in mid air a few inches above the flowing water, laughing hysterically. It is one of the many quirky and interesting traits about The Glimmering Bow.
The other main feature of Riverfall that is hard to miss is the towering Amandor Falls, the source of the flowing water in the village. It creates a constant white noise that acts as a soundtrack for the village. Standing at almost 100 feet tall, the falls attract visitors from all corners of the elven kingdom eager to catch a glimpse of its natural beauty.
