Terrahive

A smog covered planet encased in layers of an endless hive-city. From the depths of the Underhive , through the ground-level Slums, working-class Middle-Hive, up the monumental High-Borns' Towers , and all the way to the Void Structures in the planet’s orbit, its population counts in hundreds of billions of people.

Date and time tracking

Current year is 3056, counted from the moment The Sentinel took control over the Terrahive . There are various speculations on what had happened before that, but no official record exists to prove any of the theories.
With no natural seasons, or a need to track them, official time tracking became metric, for the convenience of technology. Meaning that one minute consists of 100 seconds, one hour of 100 minutes, one day of 10 hours, one week of 10 days, one month of 10 weeks/100 days, and one year of 10 months/1000 days. Second is the base unit, adjusted so that every day has it’s day/night cycle. Not that it matters to most people, as the only ones seeing the actual Sol are the ones living above the Smog.

Physics

Physics are realistic Earth-equivalent, but many technologies exist that can overcome most limitations that we have today.

Life and death

Technological advances found solutions to all health-related problems. There are no incurable diseases, organ replacements, and rejuvenation programs became common procedures. Living in a world like that would seem that people would see death as a thing of a past, but on the contrary, they became even more afraid of it. If you have enough money, you can possibly live forever. Unless someone (or yourself) delivers a death-shot. Meaning that you can survive anything if there is time to save you. But, if you happen to actually die, that is a GG. No resurrections. That's where the Bions come in.
