Martian Confederacy

The Martian Confederacy was founded in 2074 by the commanding officers and leaders of the 5 largest city-colonies that were established on Mars. At the time, the MC was not a government organization, but more of a cooperation that benefitted the colonies at entered the agreement. In 2095 however, the MC declared itself independent of the United Nations and Mars became a self-governed celestial body. Those within the Martian Confederacy has continued to consolidate power to the central government. Instead of a government that listens to the city-colonies as the founders intended, the MC has become more of an authoritarian state over the people it governs.

3.47 billion people call Mars, or the orbital platforms above it, home and therefore, besides the visitors or tourists, they are all citizens of the Martian Confederacy. Most of these people are descendants of the colonists that came from Terra in the late 21st century, but there are still many people that relocate to Mars to escape the crowded chaos of Terra, or make a new start on a new world. The citizens of the MC live in the absolutely massive city-states that evolved from the first city-colonies, with many of the largest with populations over 100 million and spanning multiple miles both above and below the surface. These massive cities are densely populated to say the least, as all human life on Mars must remain within the pressurized habitat areas.

The Martian Confederacy operates a disproportionately large military for the amount of citizens within its jurisdiction. The largest part of the Martian Armed Forces is the Martian Confederacy Navy, a sizeable and well-equipped space navy, as Mars does not have oceans. The MCN is known for its soldiers' prowess and for its spacecraft advanced capabilities. Before, and during, the Space War with the UNSF, the Martian Confederacy Navy contained the both the largest and most heavily armed vessels in significant numbers. However, many of the high officers in the MCN were only concerned about their careers and therefore failed to outmaneuver the combined the UNSF and Venusian vessels in many combat engagements.

The citizens of the Martian Confederacy enjoy many of the same technological staples that are common around the Sol System, although there is a slight amount of censoring being enforced by the MC to "Protect the good citizens of Mars from the corrupting filth and incessant distractions pouring from Terra."
