Wood Elves

The Wood Elves are an ethnicity of elves hailing from the forested regions of Lubec in the continent of Crestfall. Elusive and disinterested in the trappings of modern civilization, the Wood Elves instead choose to throw in their lot with the natural world, much like their more arid cousins, the desert elves.

History

During the time of the Crestfall's Millennium War, a splinter group of the Seelie Eladrin expressed guilt and concern for the heavy toll the warfare imposed on the continent and its native inhabitants. As the war raged on, these Eladrin dissenters would eventually fully excommunicate themselves from the Seelie Court, seeking to wash their hands of the conflict by retreating into the few bastions of nature still left untouched.   While no longer associated with the participants in Millennium War, these elven deserters were nevertheless unable to escape the effects of the Fade, and much like their once-allies and Unseelie enemies, much of these elves' magical knowledge would be erased from their minds.   In subsequent generations following the War, the descendants of these elves would adapt themselves to their new environments; those that now resided in Drang became known as the desert elves, while those that dwelled in the forests of Lubec would be known as the Wood Elves.

Culture

With their cultural knowledge of arcane magic long-since erased by the Fade, the predecessors to the Wood Elves were left conveniently open to new forms of power believed to be more sustainable to the world of Teranuz. Many of these elves adopted the druidic magic practiced by the native Lubecian gnomes, becoming more naturally attuned to the surrounding world as a result.   Still resentful of the societal failures of their ancestors, Wood Elves typically avoid densely populated towns and cities, electing instead to live in small, cloistered social groups in the wilderness beyond the eyes of civilization. Many of these elves are seemingly drawn to the forested areas bordering the Lavender Wilds, perhaps out of a subconscious calling to their ancestral home within the Feywild.   While interactions with the other races are uncommon, the Wood Elves are known to be in particularly good standing with the Lubecian gnomes, many of whom perceive the elves as benevolent guardians of the natural world. This is despite the fact that it was the gnomes themselves that taught the elves to revere the nature of Teranuz; due to the difference in gnomish and elven lifespans, however, this historical fact is one that can be easily forgotten among the gnomes of the modern era.
