Amthali giant
One of the five animals of war
This cattle species originated on the vast plains of the amthali grasslands, where they evolved during the age of fauns. The ancestors of these animals were small in size and able to hide in the tall grasses for survival, as they were hunted by the giant beasts of old. The departure of these beasts made the cows able to grow to larger sizes, into the giants they are today. A female adult's hight at the withers stands at around 2m, while that of a male bull is around 2.70m, combined with a weight that can reach up to 6000kg. They live in herds, led by the oldest female of the group. There is also one adult bull present in every herd, and they are known to be extremely terriorial and protective over the females.
Humans have been living close to these animals since they came into existance, hunting them for meat. After the landing of the Vesaja, attempts where done to domesticate these giants, which was only partly succesfull. In captivity, the Amthali giants refuse to reproduce, making it impossible to fully domesticate them. They worked around this problem by letting the herds live freely on the grasslands, and when a calf was born they would distract the bull, and steal the calf. A dangerous profession. The calf would then be raised on a farm, to be slaughtered when the time was right. However, if it is a bull the owner may opt to keep it and train it for warfare, as they are very strong and imposing animals. During The god-wars the Amthali giant bulls were bred on a large scale for this purpose, making them one of the big five war animals. During this period, these cows were also introduced to the Arkalon highlands, where they still can be found today.
