Gnoll Ambush

The party spots the destroyed remains of a covered wagon. A couple had been ambushed by a Gnoll and his pet Giant Hyenas.

In the distance, the party spots the remains of a covered wagon poking over the tall grass.   Lorvenir Quelisan scouts ahead of the group. As she approaches, she begins to hear the sounds of animals. After casting Speak with Animals and hearing the two beasts argue amongst each other, she spots the fur-covered visage of a Gnoll poking through the remains of the wagon. She also trips over the severed hand of a dwarf just as two Hyenas catch her scent.   Lor quickly changes to an Elk and begins to run for the remainder of the group. The Hyenas attack up close while the Gnoll shoots from the wagon.   Mr. Willoughby is killed in the melee, but the Gnoll and his Hyenas are dispatched.   Crow, Grukk, and Kel Ox-eye repair the wagon while Lor and Rea Bizia recover the remains of the former owners of the wagon.   Lor skins and carves meat off the Hyena. The wagon contains the following items: 1700 cp, 800 sp, 30 gp, 4 x diamond (50 gp), 2 x carnelian (50 gp), chalcedony (50 gp), moonstone (50 gp), 2 x sardonyx (50 gp), star rose quartz (50 gp), a barrel of ale (8 gp, 320 lb), a box chair (10 gp, 50 lb), a large tent (10 gp, 40 lb), a ham on bone (3 gp, 8 lb), and a journal scrawled with Dwarven runes.    The journal details the couples journey from a small mine town from Longsnag to the east. The couple intended to stop in Wyldebrush to either seek employ with the Grimstone Clan or hire some protection to travel through the Gash and the Leone Mountains to Nirngarom.
