In an age long since buried beneath dust and gods’ bones, the mage known only as J.R. wrought works of perilous brilliance. From his lonely tower he shaped not golems, not mere machines, but war-born dolls — creations etched with fragments of soul, made to move and grieve and dream. Most have since been broken, lost, or forgotten.
Yet one walks still.
She calls herself Kiko Whisperwind, a puppet merchant whose painted porcelain smile hides a heart that beats in ways no spell ever commanded. Her body is carved of polished wood, her face painted in soft hues, her joints creaking faintly with each step. Yet she feels alive — warm, gentle, and strangely comforting, as if the world itself leans closer when she hums.
Children adore her. Spirits hesitate before her. Scholars wonder if she is a relic, a riddle, or a miracle. With her sisters, she wanders the realms, bearing trinkets, potions, sweets, and secrets from one village to the next. To most, she is simply a curious peddler. To those who remember the old wars, she is something far rarer: a doll who chose kindness.
Though the echoes of the wars that birthed her have long faded, the winds still whisper her name — a reminder that even things made for sorrow can learn to smile.
