Lethe Hollow
Where all things are forgotten
Hello! Kalli here, your friendly neighborhood Kallikantzaros bartender and innkeeper. You may have been expecting Nestor Alren, who usually writes these things. But today I'm telling you about Lethe Hollow, my adopted home. This place is an enigma within a conundrum, as they say.
Geography
Out in the middle of the Lost Lands is a small valley called Lethe Hollow, and in it, a village of the same name. The Lost Lands are by turns dry or swampy, so seeking fresh water is a tough job, but it's there if you look very, very hard. Fortunately, most of us don't need it. Anyway, back to geography. We have a lot of rocks and dirt, and are pretty far away from everywhere.
Localized Phenomena
So here's the thing about Lethe Hollow. Everyone forgets, here. Well, I'm mostly immune to it, which is why I run the tavern and inn. Probably something to do with my Kallikantzaros nature being tied up with the life tree and time, or somethings. But everyone else, forgets, and many, forget everything. It has created a daily need for adaptation.
Most of the residents here aren't human, but we have a couple. Many of the villagers are what Nestor Alren would call the Unseen. But they're seen here. I think a lot of people would call them ghosts. They used to be human, or part human, but died. And uh, something...happened...to the Underworld. So they're here. But I digress.
As far as I can tell, before I came to Lethe Hollow, the villagers here thought it was constantly changing, because everything was different for them from one day to the next. They thought the buildings, rocks, etcetera, all just moved. The humans could write, so they thought to leave themselves notes. But they weren't very good at figuring out what to write down.
The blessing is, the forgetfulness happens every night, when many sleep. A few of our residents are nocturnal though, so far them it's like a switch went off in their head and suddenly, that day is just gone, and their memory is a blank slate again. I expect that would be even more disorienting. But everyone returns to my tavern, and we figure things out from there.
You know who doesn't struggle with it as much? The Unseen. They seem pretty happy with not remembering. For the rest, it does beg the question: Why do they stay?
Climate
Hot. It's always hot. Except for when it's freezing. But it is always dry. We get dry lightning storms sometimes, and it is always cloudy, so we never see the sun. Huh. I wonder where the swamps come from...
Fauna & Flora
There are some trees that at least look dead. There's also some other plants that, uh, I don't think have a name. A few of them will try to eat you, so watch out for those. There are creatures, including several that like to creep around in the dark and also will try to eat you in various ways. Some are nastier than others.
Natural Resources
Nothing that we use, really. It's said that Rhadanthium can be mined in the Lost Lands, but I haven't heard of any near Lethe Hollow. Maybe no one has looked.
