Thyrian

In the Technoverse, 95% of humanity are ordinary Humans as we think of them. The other 5% are referred to as Thyrians, in respect and reverence to their destroyed home city of Thyria. These Thyrians possess enhanced physical and mental capabilities, as well as energy manipulation powers, that place them firmly above ordinary humanity. As a result of their increased intelligence, as well as the clear-cut personality types afforded to them by the various Clans of Thyrians, these enhanced humans possess a technological advancement three centuries ahead of Humans, and as a result their own governments. Thyrians, not wanting to let their advancement over humanity, who they see as inferior, be stolen from them and taken away, keep themselves secret and hidden from the greater world. The only people who have even heard the word "Thyrian" are, themselves, Thyrians, as a result of the government's ruthless attempts to keep their own existence under wraps. Because of this hyper-vigilant stance on their own existence, Thyrians have been able to expand to every corner of the Earth and beyond, into the farthest reaches of the Solar System and, in fact, potentially beyond in the next decade or two. But this proud, intelligent, and arrogant race consider the only reason for their massive successes to be the lack of Humanity hindering their progress: after all, they are very clearly superior in every way. And this one, egotistical oversight may yet, perhaps not today or tomorrow, but some day, cause the downfall of everything they have worked for.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Anatomically identical to Humans, except, on average, taller and more muscular, owing to their natural Thunderstorm enhancement. Their hands, arms, and eyes tend to glow the color of their Clan after overuse of Thunderstorm energies, commonly called Overload.

Additional Information

Social Structure

In the Technoverse, jobs are usually made available to Thyrians less based on merit and more based on their Clan, although there is still significant emphasis placed on grades. There are certain jobs and, in fact, entire industries that will only accept workers from a specific clan. [Elaborate further after specific Clan articles have been written.]   In addition, the concept of family is exceedingly important in the Technoverse, one's family likely holding more weight than one's grades. If one's family holds a lot of esteem and is considered honorable, which may be achieved by a reputation for good deeds or a heroic ancestor, a Thyrian will have a much easier time finding the job in society for them (provided, of course, this job conforms with their Clan). In contrast, if one's family is not notable, then, no matter how qualified a Thyrian may be, they will likely be passed over for the name value of a lesser candidate. Additionally, among friend groups or families, inside jokes and stories are a key identifier of familiarity with one's family's legacy. Thyrians, of course, are expected to know how well their family is regarded and why, and pay proper reverence to both the current patriarch and matriarch of the family as well as those ancestors to whom credit for the family's standing is attributed for. Therefore, though not understanding those inside jokes is acceptable to anyone outside any given family, those who are knowledgable enough of their family history to laugh or react or understand in any way are seen as true members of the family, while those who fail to react are considered lesser family members, failures, even.   There are very few poor people in the Technoverse - since Thyrians control the world as a whole, they are able to ensure every one of their members at the very least a comfortably paying, high-middle class job in the ordinary world. Most workers are in the employ of some manner of corporation, be it in technological or weapons development, while others find jobs in construction and military employment. There is a large market for Delta Clan athletes, especially in the Sports Clubs of the Technoverse. About 70% of Thyrians are in one of these industries, making up the lowest general class of Thyrians despite having an income equivalent to an above average middle class family in the ordinary world.   The next 20% are in leadership roles, leading the Thyrian Government and its Military, as well as Directors of well-regarded corporations. As these jobs call for Alpha Clan leaders, or Delta Clan perseverance, or Gamma Clan stubbornness, very few members of Omega Clan are entrusted with these leadership roles, as the workers and owners alike would not trust such people with their businesses and politics and weapons. Finally, there is the top 5% of Thyrians, the CEOs and owners of these highly influential corporations, the Heads of each of the seven City States, the richest and most influential men and women in the world. These positions, usually hereditary, are sometimes yielded to more worthy successors, but since these are literally the most powerful positions on Earth and control the fate of 10 billion people, many of this "5% of the 5%" are reluctant to give up power. Finally, there is a lowest 5% in the Technoverse, people who run small and simple businesses, imitative of the greater world. It is these people who are the most likely to move into the wider world, whether out of a desire for a better life or because they do not quite fit in the Technoverse.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Thyrians can be found primarily in one of their several City States, or holding some sort of major position in the ordinary world (i.e. politicians, athletes, celebrities, famed scientists, Elon Musk, etc.). There are a few, however, such as William Meriweather, who may be found living humbly among Humans.

Average Intelligence

On average, Thyrians are significantly more intelligent than Human, having better memories, spatial awareness, mathematical skills, etc. This increased intelligence, however, is balanced by the increased conceit that Thyrians hold themselves in as a result.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Thyrians have enhanced seeing and hearing, as, according to Lewis Edwards , they are,
30% faster, 27% more durable, 22% stronger, and have 34% clearer vision
, than Humans. In addition, they possess the ability to manipulate Thunderstorm energies into physical forms, otherwise known as Conduits. These Conduits are created from raw Thunderstorm energy drawn from unknown locations and, using their natural affinity and control over the Thunderstorm, shaped and spent by Thyrians to their whim, although extensive years of training and gradual building of control is required for any Thyrian to attain maximum efficiency with their Thunderstorm energies.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

No general naming traditions, though there are City-State specific name schemes.

Major Organizations

Each City-State has its own autonomous government, which are organized and act independently of every other City-State. However, there is a United Nations equivalent in the Technoverse - the Thyrian Council, made up of representatives from every City-State who try to defuse feuds and ensure that every City-State is meeting their goals. The Council also holds the power to alter any City-State's government with a large enough majority, and oversees Thyrian-Human relations; namely, the feeding of technology and information from one to the other. Finally, Thyrians organize themselves into one of four Clans, which are determined by personality and genetic markers, making Clans (and by extension personality) more or less hereditary. Thyrians are sorted into Clans when they first attend one of the seven Thyrian schools, and what clan a Thyrian belongs to greatly affects their career options and how they are seen by the world. Thyrians lack religion, although there are a few organized crime groups, such as the Dark Lightning and the entirety of the Santartican Government.

Average Technological Level

Thyrians enjoy a technological level estimated to be 300 years ahead of Humanity. Though much of the current Human technologies are powered by electricity, no Human is aware that this electricity is in fact a rudimentary, watered down version of the Thunderstorm that empowers and enhances all Thyrians. With the full potential of the Thunderstorm, a mysterious otherworldly dimensional energy that is at once a physical place where people can pass through and store items, as well as a manipulatable energy field that can be shaped to Thyrians' whims, Thyrians are able to build extremely efficient machines that work faster, stronger, and better than the average Human machines. A Human supercomputer would be considered Thyrian junk, for instance, and the very slowest Thyrian cars may still pass for reasonable luxury cars and, for sure, ordinary vehicles in the wider world. Many Thyrians have at least one Origin, a device capable of harnessing the physical Thunderstorm to quickly transport people and things from place to place. In addition, loading screens have been eradicated, entire banks operate out of a single computer, and space is as easily accessible as the house next door. Thyrians have advanced to a near interstellar state, making trips to and from space regularly, to say nothing of the general holographic and AI improvements brought to every day life.

History

During the World's Inception, in 2401 MY, the Thunderstorm initially granted its powers to the very best of the slowly developing Humans who, back then, were the predominant species on Earth. With this infusion of intelligence, physicality, and superiority into the most worthy of Humanity, the newly empowered Thyrians left their developing civilizations and answered a call, a sudden longing for a home in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. They found this home in Phoenix Island, where vast, advanced civilizations and mythical species lived. Thyrians lived among these mythical species for a millenia until some among them decided to leave and aid the ordinary folk in the greater world. This started three thousand years of influencing and controlling the wider world from the shadows, and three thousand years of Humans suffering for Thyrians' disagreements. The advanced race, using their superior intelligence and charisma, took grand, influential positions and solidifying their power over ordinary Humanity. Their secret feuds have sparked wars, their perpetual advancement has shaped their world (but never the wider world), and they have given Humanity many legends and heroes to believe in. Thus, we arrive at the modern day, with Humanity emerging from a Third World War, its progress having stagnated for the decades of war prompted by secret Thyrian conflicts, and with Thyrians themselves experiencing an Age of Rebirth and rediscovery of old ideals.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

As invisible lords and masters of all Humanity, Thyrians view Humans with great contempt, such that phrases like "That was a human error" have entered Thyrians' vernacular slang, and to be compared to a human is seen as extremely embarrassing. Thyrians do not allow any Humans at all to know of their existence, while giving Humanity only the very worst and obsolete of the wonderful technologies they have developed in the world. This interaction, the ability to keep another intelligent species completely reliant on a people that Humans do not even know exist, gives many Thyrians great pleasure and allows them to maintain their perpetual advancement over the, as they see it, inferior species.
Scientific Name
